Kinda hard to pinpoint. After Taser started selling them?

Who knows. Before videos and such started popping up most people did not even know what a taser was. Taser is the main brand for the type of stun gun that propels a wire. Plus they were advertised and sold heavily in civilian catalogs like Sharper Image for years.

Its like Kleenex, Windex or Vaseline. Some company names stick as the generic term.

Most stun guns I have seen are required to be held onto a person while the trigger is pulled. Tasers have prongs that are propelled at a victim so the person using it does not have to be right next to the victim. Could just be a brand name as stated.

These are two different things. Both shock you but only a Taser will knock you down.

A stun gun shocks you and it hurts. This weapon works off of pain compliance. If you can handle a little pain then you can work through it and continue to fight.

Tasers shock you to the point that your muscles freeze up. You fall down and there isn't anything you can do for 5 seconds. No matter how tough you are.

Taser is the predominant manufacturer. Just like calling facial tissues Kleenex or cola products Cokes.

Interesting responses. I guessed it was when people started "dying" when they were only supposed to be "stunned".
