She is 7 1/2 months old, and I think that shes in heat for the 3rd time. She starts meowing loudly and a LOT! She paces, rubs on everything, and rolls on the carpet. The 1st time seemed to last about 5 days, about 3 weeks later the 2nd time lasted about 10 days. Its been about 4 weeks and she has started and its lasted for 2 days so far.

I came on to ask another question, was researching, and I saw that somebody said that their cat tries to pee on things in heat. I noticed that my kitty does hunker in that same position just wherever, but I havent noticed her actually peeing. She also kind of crawls on her belly with her hind end in the air. While this is only mildly annoying (especially when done in my face or to my leg), I wonder if she has been peeing or having menses (like people). I did have a smelly situation after the last heat cycle, but I had some apples and potatoes go bad too. After cleaning the house , the smell was mild and gradually gone. Could it be her?

She does sound like she is in heat. You should have her spayed. Schedule the surgery now since it sometimes takes awhile for an opening. She will need a little extra care if it has to be done while she is in heat, but it can be done.

There are many medical benefits to having your animals spayed/neutered, and you and the cat will be happier without the heat cycles.

I had to have my femaled spayed while in heat because she was becoming a danger to herself and others, and I had a specialist do it. There was extra bloodwork, monitoring, and it took a little longer, but everything worked out fine, and she is a happy kitty. She was 11 months when I adopted her, and of course she went into heat right away because it turned out we had some males in the neighborhood (i know because 3 were sitting politely outside my front door waiting for the princess).

Females do spray, especially if not spayed. It is not just the males. My females still does it when scared, but luckily she always does it over the litter box and I have rigged up a system to catch the urine so my home is not ruined.

Get your cat spayed. To see if she urinated/sprated anywhere, you can get a handheld blacklight and it will like up the spots. I have seen them at Petsmart by the company "No Stink"

EDIT: oh, and potato stink is one of the worst smells known to man. I would think a rotting body wouldn't smell as bad as a rotten potatoe, so you can't blame all of the stink of the cat, but she may very well start causing a stink if you don't get her spayed soon. It only gets worse, and once they start spraying, it is a lifetime behavior.

To be "in heat" means that she is seeking a mate/is receptive to a male. If she were to get out during this time it is highly likely that she would be able to attract an un-neutered male and would come home pregnant.

Your girl is now more than old enough to be spayed. It would be best for both you and her if you have this done as soon as she comes out of heat this time. If cost is an issue contact your local animal shelter about low cost spay/neuter clinics in your area or look them up on line.

You cat is in heat (technical term estrus). She will continue to come in and out of this cycle until she is bred ( cats are induced ovulators-which means she will ovulate when bred and come out of heat ) or spayed. Check around at the shelters in your area for low cost spay options, many are on a sliding scale according to income, some are actually free.

Good luck.

your cat is definitely in heat. As far as the smell, i have never noticied that from my cats. It may only be mildly annoying now, but it gets worse. We ended up getting our cat spayed because it just got so annoying. middle of the night yowling up and down the hallway. when she got spayed, she never did it again. hope this will help you!

She will continue to go into heat unless you take her to the vet to be spayed. Yes it was probably her that left the bad odor.
