If I remember correctly, the woman's death was not caused primarily from overloading on water, but not properly emptying her bladder. The human body is over 95% water, therefore, we literally need it to survive. However, too much of anything, and poor self care, can cause illness, even death. I drink nothing but water, vanilla and chocolate soy milk and orange juice. Well, I drink four measuring cups of coffee a day, too, and the occasional diet Sierra Mist and half of a bottle of beer, too. (I'm breastfeeding and my daughter is not quite on a schedule and the breast pump I have is broken [I do not know if it's my fault or if it came like that, so I'm going to phone the company and ask if I can purchase a replacement, so I split bottles with my husband for now.) I don't have a soda or beer unless I think I've had substantial water intake and will be having more after.
I do not knowif I agree with one can cut back on water some if s/he has a soda. I've seen Coca-Cola advertise making the claim that soda can count toward one's water intake. There MIGHT be truth to that, but I found the comment to be very biased. (It's not as though they're hurting for soda sales.) Conventional sodas are pure junk with artificial flavorings and colors and corn syrup and/or high fructose corn syrup. I used to drink the diet Sierra Mist (in addition to natural ginger ale) because I had major, constant heartburn during my pregnancy. (Yes, my daughter was born with a full head of hair that's only growing.)
For me, my motto is have water, book or magazine, will travel. Everything moderation.

I drink about 38 fluid ounces of water in the morning followed by a few half cups of coffee, and I was wondering if this was to much water at once. I takes about 20 minutes to drink the water, and the coffee seems to make you have to go to the bathroom quite a bit for a few hours. Should I wait till after I drink some coffee or is this okay. When you have things to do during the day, you can't be going to the bathroom every ten minutes, so I thought it would be better to drink it first thing in the morning. Is this to much water, because I'm trying to what's best for my body.

It is bad if you drink too much at one time without going to the bathroom. The lady that died went to an extreme. I don't think you have anything to worry about. I drink a lot of water, but I don't drink it all at once, and go to the bathroom several times throughout the day. So, unless you plan on drinking several liters of water in one sitting, there is no danger in upping your water intake.
Drinking water is great when you are dieting because it keeps you hydrated, keeps your energy levels up, and can help control cravings if you drink a glass before a meal. Mostly, when people who diet drink more water, they tend to also drink less sugary drinks, colas, etc., therefore cutting down the calories they intake by beverage alone. When you consider the amt of calories in a 20 oz coke, that is a big difference.

Drinking too much water in a short amount of time is bad. Trust me, unless you're in some contest like the one on the radio, you won't overdo it. I drink about 2 gallons of water a day and am very healthy.
Also, soda just dehydrates you. So whoever said if you drink soda, you can drink less water is wrong. Drink more water. You're body can only handle so much water an hour. It's something like 60 oz. You wont drink that much unless you are forcing yourself. Drink water.
100 oz a day should be a minimum, not a goal.

Don't know if its effective to lose weight but slimming clinics recommend it as part of a program. It is good for you but can be done to excess - though this is quite hard to do it is an awful lot. How much are you drinking? You should be fine if you take it over the day and keep having a glassful or so at a time. No need to become alarmed.

You should drink 64 oz of water a day to keep healthy. If you drink juice or soda you can cut back the water a little bit. It is in fact true that drinking to much water is not good for you. The rule of thumb is that you should drink a glass of water about every two hours, given that you are awake 16 hours a day.
Hope this helped.

It is possible to die from drinking too much water, but if someone is in a water drinking contest, they are drinking an extreme amount at one time. This can cause a sodium deficiency.
Drink around 8 glasses of water a day.

She drank too much water being on a radio contest to win concert tickets for Justin Timberlake's concert. You are supposed to drink 8 cups of water a day at least.
Drinking water is very important for your well-being. Not drinking enough water can cause dehydration which can lead to fatigue, stress, poor digestion... Coffee, tea, alcohol and sodas are not substitutes for water, they dehydrate you more. Drink at least 8 cups of water everyday to avoid dehydration.
