Meditation, Yoga, mental link and thinking to me is the same thing. Then your question would be translated into what should a spiritual person think of? Good question, because that makes the difference between spiritual and non spiritual person. What kind of thoughts does a spiritual person have? Ofcourse Positive Thoughts. And what are the positive thoughts? It means the thoughts that are useful and beneficial. A most spiritual person would always be aware of the accurate itroduction of the self and God no matter what he or she does. To be aware means ''to keep it at the back of your mind'' no matter what you do like when it is your birth day - you are aware of that throughout the day no matter what you do (at that time it can be said that you are having yoga with the fact that it is your birthday). The accurate introduction of the self and God means to know yourself beyond of what you are now and to know God's personality and task. You can know yourself to such extent only if someone who knows it tells you. God knows who you are because He never forgets Himself in the first place. One may know a lot about the self, more than many other people, but not more than God....:)

So a highly spiritual person performs only beneficial actions with the awareness of the self and God.... those are the only things he thinks of: charity, self and God. Although you have asked about meditation strictly i also included actions because a spiritual person means one who continues to be spiritual even when meditation is finished - in the every day life, actions and interractions.

It can be anything, because the object upon which you are focusing your mind upon has no importance. If you want, you can direct the attention of your mind on the void or an idol of an adored deity. What is important is that your mind should be one-pointed and should not be distracted from what it is concentrating on. There should be a perfect silence in the place where you are meditating. If you do it in open nature far from urban noise, it is still very good. Whatever be the object you are concentrating upon, your mind should not be distracted or diverted elsewhere by a secondary source.

There are different kinds of meditation like the Transcendental Meditation where they initiate you with a manthra. You have to keep thinking the manthra & meditate.

There is another kind of meditation where you think the image of God in your mind.

The meditation which i am doing is Kundalini Yoga. In this meditation the masters bring the kudalini sakthi[energy or life force] which is in the sexual gland[mooladhar chakra] to the pitutary gland[agnai chakra]We will feel a mild sensation like that of an ant bite or just a pressure in between the eye brows.

We will feel only a mild part of the energy. We concentrate on that sensation & meditate.

In soonya meditation we should see that thoughts doesn't come & meditate on blankness which will be quite difficult for some.

Any meditation will finally lead you to be in a thoughtless state of mind. One should also see that it suits you.

Beginners can meditate upon gross things or an idea, which is spiritual and Satvic (pure), such as symbol (cross, Om), flame of a candle, Deity, photo of saint etc. This is known as Sampragyata Samadhi. Patanjali yog sutra "Yathabimat Dhyana Dwa" means what ever one likes, one should meditate upon.

Under higher spiritual domain, meditation on the self. Then Self abides in Self, which is the natural state. This is known as Asampragyat Samadhi, which finally lead to Kaivlya/Liberation/Moksha/Nirvana.

Meditation consist of three sub-process - Dharna (concentration), Dhyan (continues and un-broken concentration) and Samadhi (when you become an object of concentration), which is known as "Sanyam".

Nothing. Meditation means that you should empty yourself out of all thoughts and spiritualism leads you to such a blissful state, true meditation results in a state of 'No focus, No thoughts', just a natural state of 'Pure existence, sublime being'.

Reach out with your feelings to deceased relatives who can hear your thoughts wherever they are in the invisible universe. Ask them to send you images to help you understand what your purpose is or where the world is headed. Once in a while, close your eyes and put aside the usual slide show of flashing images that are constantly running in your minds eye and look around that stuff into the darkness where you know you usually don't go unless you're about to fall asleep. Go there and wait for vivid images that seem real. When you get a premonition you will know. It will hit you hard emotionally. Get use to seeing these events come to pass. Get comfortable with them and they will come more often. Thank the spirits and thank God. This thanking enforcement is very powerful and will help with the progression.

Nothing... Meditation is process wherein you try to concertrate your mind and fix it on thought-less state. For starter it is way too impossible to meditate being blank. Hence, starters are adviced to meditate on one single object. something that makes u feel better. Rose, light, lamp, Aum.. But this is only temp. when we get used to meditation, we need to remove this thought too.
Its like when we practice swimming , we use beat-board. Eventually, when we start to swim, we shld let go the beat-board. If not we can never learn to swim properly.
In meditate, we meditate on nothing..the nothingness

Meditation is supposed to silence the body, mind and intellect which has covered our divinity, the true nature which is in fact the essence of spirituality. As we meditate, slowly, gradually our breath slows down, power of thoughts gets weakened in the sense that it no more binds or triggers reactions as it used to be and also emotional turbulence is reduced resulting in calmness all of which silences the inauthentic existence of ours. We have to look beyond our thoughts and feelings to get to our divine nature, hence, meditation aids this process
