My friend (A) has a friend (B) [who also happens to be his co-worker] who invited me and my friend (A) for his (B) birthday dinner. But my friend (A) suddenly has other plans. The thing is, I feel weird going alone since we're (me and B) not close or anything.
Should I go or not? Or do I just send the present? What is the proper thing to do?

yeah, there will be other people (even for me, it would *really* be weird if it's just be the 3of us...) ^_^

I met him the same time i met my friend (A) but we don't talk longer than 2 minutes the most. Just something like "hi, hello, how are you, what's new" stuff.

I think it depends on how awkward you think it would be if only you were there. If you think it won't be so bad, and you make friends easily, then go for it. If you aren't so much a people person, and you think you'd just kinda sit around not talking, don't worry about it. If you don't go, don't worry about a gift.

No, you definitely should not go since you were not invited by B, but by A.
I would definitely not send a present either. A birthday card would be appropriate if you're not close to B.

If you know B well enough to buy a present, then you know him well enough to go to dinner. I'm guesing there'll be other people there too (it wasn't just going to be the 3 of you?). It could be a great chance to make some new friends.
If you still want to go, then go!

You were going with your friend. Since you don't know the friend of your friend, decline the invitation, citing a prior engagement.

Go ahead and go! You might have a good time and make a new friend! There is no "proper" or "unproper" thing to do, so do what you want.
