The higher meditation on chakras is done mentally only.
Thainking of the chakra, its petals, colors, devata, shakti and reciting its beej mantra, the chakra starts getting activated.
But normally chakra meditation on a particular chakra should not be done without guru, as it may lead to imbalance of energies.
best is to worship god in Heart Chakra without any beej mantra

Chakram or Chakra ? the first word means a mentally deranged person in Hindi.
You can do it without yantra or photos just focus on that chakra in your mind thats it.

No no no my dear friend, you definitely need initiation in order to conduct this ritual. Initiation is the first step of chakra puja.
