Well I am definately not looking for any arguments or pushing an extreme view - just some doubts !

If Jesus actualy named the religion of his faith when he was alive - what would he wanted the followers of his religion to be identified as ?

The cross is a material just like the Holy grail and others - why must a religion named after some material then the founder himself.

Christian means follower of Christ = Jesus Christ.

Christ means "Anointed One", it has nothing to do with a cross.

You were not SERIOUSLY asking this, now were you?

Because Jesus is Christ. Christian is a very, very old term. People began to be called Christians when the Apostle Paul was still alive and traveling. Some scholars believe that the name Christian actually started with non-believers who used it as a derogatory term toward believers in Christ. Lo and behold, whether it started out as derogatory or not, believers in Christ suddenly had a name-- "Christian." I am proud to be a Christian.

The followers of Jesus were first called "Christians" in Antioch less than a decade after His death and resurrection. The name was given to them as a slur.

"Christ" means "annointed". Jesus, the Christ, the Annointed of God. To understand this you need to know what annointing meant to the Jews of His day. Got a month?

Jesus never gave His followers a specific name to go by.

And Jesus, the Founder of this faith, being the Annointed of God: calling Him such is hardly naming the faith "after some material other than the founder".

Jesus did not name any religion. Jesus was his name. The Christ is who he was. So.........followers of the Christ are Christians.
