Allowing 'Gays' to serve with the other troupes in a combat situation, : How does the 'Average American Soldier of today' feel about this??
I happen to be from the 1950's and early 1960's Army, but I, (and I believe that others from the past active duty status) may not have the same opinions, as our "Younger" troupes of today have, BUT, today I am not on 'active duty' status.
PLEASE, MILITARY PERSONNEL ANSWERS, ONLY. THIS QUESTION IS POSTED TO OBTAIN CURRENT INFO INPUT, FROM THOSE WHO MAY BE DIRECTLY EFFECTED.
THANK YOU, "HEROS", "MAY THE BIG GENERAL UP HIGH, SMILE UPON YOU, AND YOUR FAMILIES"!!!

NO!
Gays should NOT be allowed to serve openly in the military.
Beyond that, last night's "debate" was a fraud. The questions were planted by the extreme left Democratic Party BASE, and CNN selected the MOST RIDICULOUS questions possible to present to the candidates.
CNN should be embarrassed for such open demonstration of their political bias, but they won't be. They are well paid to be so biased in all their reporting.
I can't believe there were NO questions from Conservatives contributed to CNN for the event. CNN had to carefully select the WORST possible questions to present to the candidates.
That no candidate called CNN on the carpet for their bias is a SLAP IN THE FACE OF TRUE CONSERVATIVES, or the candidates are too stupid to recognize an insult when it is hurled at them.
(I turned off the debate after only a few minutes of watching. I couldn't STAND it!)

Our society has become more aware of gay rights and issues and for the most part have been more supportive than the past. Of course, there have been numerous gays and lesbians in the military in the past and present. I haven not seen any issues with a person's sexuality becoming a problem. It is a discrimination issue.
Some people are racist and do not want to work or live with someone of a different race than them. This also applies to religions. So, the same feeling will be with gays and lesbians in the military.
I spent 21 years in the Army and retired earlier this year. I have never seen an issue where a gay person has impeded military actions or made me feel uncomfortable.
There are more issues with males and females working together because with human nature, we are sexual beings and have desires and urges. Even though we may know that it is improper or not right, it still happens. For example, the Red Cross CEO had to step down because of improper relations. A former SGM of the Army had allegations for improper relations. But, how many times have you heard about a gay or lesbian person doing something bad to someone straight like making advances, or worse? I haven't heard of any.
Also, how often would a soldier shower with another soldier? Nowadays, with the way the barracks are designed, everyone has their own privacy and they do not have to shower together like they would at open showers at a gym.
Military members are usually resistant to change. I know that I was. I did not like the berets and other changes but, ....I had to deal with it and get over it because I was not going to be able to change that policy.
So, I would not have a problem with it. But, I am retired now and I wouldn't feel any of the effects.
Just remember, change is sometimes dangerous!

My husband and I talked about last night Debate, and what the Retired General stated... I do want you to understand there are MANY GAYS serving in the Military right now; some do not show it at all and others are Open but not where the Chain of Command know or they know but dont do anything about it.
females who are Gay or Bi noone really cares but when its males who are Gay or Bi its a problem. For me no I dont care he or she may be the one to save my life or others in Combat, however I dont want to see a gay male or female being Intimate .
There were many females in AIT with me that didnt hide the fact they were Gay, In fact they were so open about it they didnt have a problem having Sex in our open bay .

You might post a link as to where and when the supposed Debate took place.
By the way, its "troops", the"troupes" you refer to work the theater circuit!!
EDIT:
With regards Homosexuality there are a lot of people out there, both in the civil as well as military worlds, who were taught from childhood that homosexuality was wrong, perverse and evil, this was drilled into them by their family, school and church, we all know it existed, but, while it was not openly flouted it did not seem to be a problem.
Gays in the military were tolerated but many men were openly nervous of having to be in their presence even during work, more so when you had to go on duty with them, many guys I knew would not stay alone in the showers or wash area in their presence, some cases of the homosexuals forcing themselves on young recruits were known to have happened, and charges were brought, depending upon the rank of the person involved punishment ranged from dismissal to being sent to another unit.
Sometimes in the dark of night they were on the end of a beating.
While today, anybody who is "offended" by people of a homosexual nature, the politically correct groups, who took it upon themselves to back "gay-rights" have now managed to make people, the so-called "straights" all appear to be rabid homophobic.
In reality can we expect people who were bought up with strict moral and religious views depending upon their families and faith, change to tolerant, understanding people?
I do not think thats so easy, especially in the military, you can allow gays in the military, but, you cannot make people like them.

A gay person in my old Regiment raped a cook, another gay person later in my Regiment (after I left) was directly responsible for the suicide of another young soldier (one can speculate as to what he did to that younger soldier). There is no room in the Military for gays who openly show they are gay or are on the prowl. If they serve and keep their sexual orientation to themselves and do not draw attention and they serve well no problem.

I don't think that allowing gays in the military is any benefit to our nation. The problems it would cause would outweigh any benefits. I don't think that my soldiers would feel comfortable with an openly gay soldier serving with them.

I would not support it. I do not see any difference between having a gay man in a straight man's barracks etc, and having a straight man living in the same barracks as women. At the very least it would make me feel uncomfortable.
Edit: In addition to my personal feelings it would hurt recruiting if men and women would be forced into serving with homosexuals.
