Red with bloodstained tears and red with giving and forgiving, red with passion and red with winter skies.

So sad that a time of loving and giving is tainted with traditions of cruelty.

So yes, in so many ways the red of blood.

The blood of family, the blood of the innocent cruelly slain like the blood of Christ whose birth it marks.

Be sarcastic if you like. Or have a second look at the word. Break it down. Are you asking why we celebrate a holy day by eating the flesh of dead animals? Because they taste good, it's culturally relevant, and why mess with 150,000 years of biology?
