From any religion... who tried to convert you to their faith? Were you interested? Were you pissed off? What did you do? Stories?

FYI, anyone who's interested: Atheists can not convert you... I know most people aren't confused by this, but due to one answer, and the fact that I'm an atheist, I feel the need to clarify this. Atheists do not believe in god, and do not adhere to any religion... now that we have that cleared up...

I seem to attract that sort of thing, and while many have tried to "save" me, there is one instance in particular that has always stood out in my mind...

I was scuba diving in Newfoundland on a dive boat, and the guy I got buddied up with ended up running out of air 85 feet down inside a wreck. Not that big of a deal, I had plenty of air and gave him a regulator to breath off. At some point, the guy panics for no reason, spits out the spare regulator he was using, knocks my mask off, and rips my other regulator out of my mouth and tries to make a break for the surface....

Long story short, I got control of the guy again, found the spare regulator to use for myself, and got him back to the surface. After I borrowed a mask to go recover my own mask and got back on the boat, he walked over to me and said.....and I quote "I can't thank god enough that I ended up being paired with a true christian who could help me in my time of need".

I told him it was no problem, but that I was, in fact, an atheist that was simply happy to help someone in need. He briefly tried to convince me that I was, in fact, a christian; which I politely refuted...... At this, he turned away and said something about being unwilling to let a "satanist" take any credit for god's miraculous rescue of him and wouldn't speak to me the entire ride back to port.

I still get a chuckle out of the whole thing from time to time...

A couple of years agoI had a couple (one man, one woman) of Jehova's Witnesses at my door, and I did my usual thing of going to the door and very politely telling them that I didn't want a watchtower thank you as I am a Druid.

This revelation is normally followed by a hasty retreat of the now ashen faced evangellists, not that day though!

I was very pleasantly surprised when the lady exclaimed "really? I've never met a druid before!" What followed was a very pleasant chat about what I believed (an experience I have NEVER had before with Jehova's Witnesses) We then got talking about the importance of looking after the earth, recycling and sustainable energy! It was a most pleasant chat, and we parted saying how nice it is when people can look past each other's beliefs and see the person.

I will certainly think next time I make any sweeping generalisations in future, I shall take everyone as I find them and not colour my view of them with my experience of others (I hope)

My ex boss was a born again Christian and was always trying to "convert" me. Don't get me wrong I am very open minded and am happy to have people talk to me about their beliefs, I am hoping I will find some answers to the questions that I have, and to find a faith that will give me the inner peace and hope that I am looking for. He even prayed with me several times, but you know what, I felt nothing at all, I so wanted to, I really, really wanted to experience the feeling that so many religious people have, that they have "come home" and that Jesus loves them etc, but I didn't, I got nothing at all, and I am still looking for answers.

Three days after moving into my new house, two months ago, the JW's called.

I already had a builder visiting, so had to ask them to call back later. They haven't been as yet. I'm looking forward to it.

At my old house neither the Mormons or the Jehovah's Witnesses called any more. I think they had me blacklisted.

Everytime I talk to my sis who is Jehovah Witness in NJ, Jehovah witnesses show up at my door within a week. It has become a family joke. Also on my outing without the little one and a guy walked half a block telling me of the path to heaven.
Then he told me how he was going to hell. That was odd.

One time stands out in my mind like the sun in the sky.

I was about seventeen and walking through the mall with friends, we were goofing off, nothing too stupid, and out of nowhere this lady looks at me and says "I'll Pray for you" I am Christian but this set me off. Just b/c I was wearing almost all black, shorts and shirt were black. I looked like a normal kid that had ran out of clothes. Needless to say i made the lady cry b/c of my "heathen ways" people down here suck.

Today, as a matter of fact. A couple of Jehovah's Witnesses came to my front door.

I politely told them that I was not interested in a new major religion today, thank you.

Well last week two young Mormons come to my apartment. At first I was being polite, but kept on saying 'no' to almost everything they were saying.
Somehow in the end I agreed to have a Bible class with them next week though. Jeez, I'm a such a sucker?

--Buddhist.

this summer a guy at work made a poor attempt at it while I was walking into work. I was pretty annoyed but I didn't feel like making a big fuss so I just smiled and nodded

The only evangelizing I've ever been exposed to is adherents to the Church of Pope Ron Paul trying to convert me into their religion of crazy. No thanks, idiots.
