future the "light" might change and that the error could be harmful to many people?

For example, in 1967 the Watchtower Society forbade its followers to receive organ transplants, but in 1980 it reveised its decision.

Xyleisha: Maybe it is because I care about YOUR eternal destiny. If you are right, I do not go to hell, but if I am right the hell is a real place. Think about it. And I would really appreciate if you would answer instead of making your own set of unrelated questions.

I have told this many times over but once more:I am non-denominational Christian

Moises_Frias: I know why I celebrate Christmas, and it is totally different reason than why pagans did.

However, at least I have a choice. You are NOT ALLOWED to celebrate.

Misplaced: What kind of person have to laugh that a fellow member of the church has hepatitis??

Let's hope that you never need a blood transfusion to save your life. Anyhow, that is not the biggest of your worries considering that your organization does not have any authority and power to carry out and deliver any of its promises about the eternal life.

You are the minority group.

Karysia: Over dramatizing?? Well, it is a wise thing to select your leaders carefully so that they are not leading you to the wrong direction.

I am fine with your choice, I just try to help those who actually want to be helped

Hear it from the Governing Body itself:

"Your attitude toward the wheatlike anointed 'brothers' of Christ and the treatment you accord them will be the determining factor as to whether you go into 'everlasting cutting-off' or receive 'everlasting life'. Prove yourself to be a loyal companion of the anointed 'wheat' class, the 'faithful and discreet slave', whom Christ has appointed to provide spiritual 'food at the proper time'. Keep active in the ingathering work...'

So, it's not just outward obedience to them that counts - it's JW ATTITUDES towards them that will make the difference between eternal annihilation or everlasting life! Sook up to them for all you are worth, JWs! Don't question anything! Bow down and adore!

True. To you JW's who argue that you are in subjection to Jehovah and they are his "faithful and discrete slave", try disagreeing with them on a theological point. Or try pointing out to the Elders where they are screwing up. You're likely to be disfellowshipped. And yes you can be disfellowshipped for showing disrespect to the Elders. I was.

I simply pointed out where on Ministerial Servant had screwed a sister, a pioneer out of money aledgedly to repair her car. This guy has a history of doing this. When I pointed out his actions, with witnesses and documentation, I might add, I was reprimanded severely. I was disfellowshipped and two others were publically reproved. The mechanic? He was promoted to Elder.

How many of you actually get "shepherding" calls? In 50 years, I got one. The Elders are supposed to do that, and usually, it doesn't get done. Your congregation may be the exception, but it is one of few.

It's not possible for ALL JW's to believe ALL the points brought out in the publications from the governing body, ALL the time. Especially when they flip flop on many issues, organ trans plant being one.

If you had gotten an organ transplant in 1968 you would have been disfellowshipped. Could you go back in 1980 and would they admit that disfellowshipping you was wrong?

No. You would have been considered disobedient in 1968. The point is you disobeyed the "truth" as it was dictated by the Society in 1968. No matter that transplants are now OK.

You should have obeyed in 1968. Oh yea, you'd probably be dead now.

So how many died from 1967 to 1980 as a result of obedience? Is the Watchtower guilty of negligent homicide or manslaughter? Whats the difference between this issue and Dr. Kevorkian?

I don't know anyone in my family that ever had an organ transplant, so why the big deal? One member had a blood transfusion given to her on the sneak against my wishes and she now has hepatitis C.

I have to laugh, you act like when we go to the Kingdom Hall, there is a huge monitor on the wall with sayings from Big Brother. The Law Covenant was set up with a series of rules and regulations, and if those rules were not followed, the penalty was often death. These rules were set up by Jehovah God himself with the help of Moses. Now we follow a belief based on a new covenant based on the sacrificial blood of Christ Jesus, so why do you think it strange that the belief is organized with certain rules and regulations. God is not a god of disorder.

It sounds to me Nina like your nondenominational religion is still wandering in the wilderness.

Edit: I was not laughing about the hepatitis, I was laughing about the big brother thought. It was my daughter that got hepatitis, they gave her blood in the middle of the night without calling me. I would not take a transfusion, I would prefer to take my chances.

Don't you think you are over dramatising things here?

IS there actually anything that they could change in the future that will make a huge difference and be harmful to many people?

Yes, allowing their members to go to war, THAT will be harmful to many people. Allowing thier members to get involved with "Babylon the great", THAT will bring punishment from God. Allowing their members to carry on in sin, THAT will bring harm to the congregation.

Going back to the question, what should our attitude to those taking the lead be?

Hebrews 13:17: "Obey your leaders and do what they say. They are watching over you, and they must answer to God. So don't make them sad as they do their work. Make them happy. Otherwise, they won't be able to help you at all."

It looks like you've failed miserably in that aspect; "I do what I want, I'm not letting anyone tell me what I can and can't do!"

Yeah, that makes you a great Christian.

I believe Tina's point is that we are not to just go blindly into submission with our elders. That would eventually become at some point the blind leading the blind, since our elders are sinners too. Yes, we are to obey Hebrews 13:17, just as Peter and the other apostles did with the Sanhedrin. And this any mature Christian would do. However, when it comes to an issue of life or death, like being told not to preach the gospel, or to not undergo an operation that would otherwise prolong my life here on earth, I believe the appropriate stipulation at that point to follow would be to , "...obey God rather than men." (Acts 5:29) Peter did, so what makes you so unqualified or special (however you want to look at it) in comparison to him? This is one of many major differences between walking in the freedom that we graciously have in the Holy Spirit, Who's with us at every moment; and the fear of men, who are not. Otherwise, one should be in doubt whether they actually are indwelt by Him. We wouldn't need Him if we weere required by God to just obey our leaders no matter what, right? After all, didn't Jesus say that He would lead us into all truth? (John 16:13) Where is your ultimate trust; in your leaders, or in the Spirit of God? Just think if you were Peter and the other apostles, and you didn't go against their elders' proscription, what would be the ramifications of this? Yes, we wouldn't have had the gospel today! Serious, isn't it?!

There are more Biblical references than just to obedience to elders, Karysia. Use the mind that God gave you, and search the scriptures (for yourself), comparing scripture against scripture, to see what applies to the situation at hand in your life, (yes, asking for counsel and direction from the elders for things that you aren't sure of. THIS is the main reason why they are there for you), but FIRST asking the Holy Spirit to guide you into all truth, because in them (the scriptures) you will find Life, Jesus Himself! (John 5:39) If He tells you different, well, I say "woe!" to the one who doesn't obey God, but rather obeys men, when there is a crystal clear difference!

I think best answer should go to Sasi.

P.S. There are quite a lot of sincere, non-denominational Christians on this site and, unlike some, are genuinely concerned for the eternal lives of those who have been misled. They pray for people like Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons, and those who have yet to hear the gospel message. They are not so proud, so vain, so self-righteous as some who (like Jehovah's Witnesses) consider that they, and only they, have "the truth" and that only they will be saved.

I am waiting with bated breath to see what happens with the coming changes.
1- New Light on the 1914 really being the end of the Gentile Times. Scripture only applies to the Heavenly class, but the Earthly class may be in for a very long wait. (I was wondering how they were going to change this date problem)

2-New Light on blood. 2 countries are already under the law of Conscience for that doctrine, when will the other ones follow suit, and who will mourn for the un-necessary loss of life?

Jesus Christ is the only way to be saved and when we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we become God's children. Then we need not fear hell. John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whosoever believes in Him, shall not perish, but have eternal life."

The only 'light' that matters is Jesus. The scriptures tell us he is the light of the world.

Why get so tied up in things that have nothing to do with God's truth?

What does God Almighty liken His Self to?

Hosea 14:
8 Ephraim shall say, What have I to do any more with idols? I have heard him, and observed him: I am like a green fir tree. From me is thy fruit found.

Subjugation to the WTB&TS no doubt. And not baptized in the name of the God Almighty, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit either, the members are committed and dedicated to preaching what the WT teaches.
