I recently had a mental eval done. I was supposed to deploy to Iraq September 3, but I have stuck in the rear because the Army doesn't think I am stable enough mentally to go. They are sending me to med-hold, though I only have a temporary profile, everyone is saying that not to keep my hopes up that they Army will chapter me for "unfit for duty." Does this happen frequently?

This all depends on numerous things. I am assuming that you are a basic training soldier because you mentioned that you are in medical hold. This depends on the commander if he/she wants to push the issue and get rid of you (sorry to say it like that). The commander has lots of pull in this. If a medical doctor says that you have mental issues and should be kicked out then this will probably happen.

If you are out of basic and in your permanent party, then a Chapter 12 discharge could be initiated. But, usually a Chapter 12 will not be necessarry if you are just in Basic Training.

Do you want out? If so, why did you join in the first place?

Anyways, good luck!

I hesitate to answer. "Mental" is like back problems and arthritis, as they are the problems which are most difficult to evaluate.
"Mental" is extremely vague. Are you suffering from problems which will pass, or are you using it as an excuse to get out? You tell me. It's not like a fractured bone, which a doctor can just look at an e xray and say " it's going to be 6 weeks"
i realistically they have more timely issues to deal with, and they will get around to yours when they get a chance.
