The only part of the Bible that i find slightly frightening would be the Book of Revelation, because it speaks of huge amounts of death, disease, torment, and chaos in the world, and of coarse, it will end everything as we know it. I will be exited to meet Jesus Christ, but i will still be scared of this event, and i hope i am not alive when the Antichrist comes to tear it all down. Psychologically speaking, we have no control over what is going to happen to us in the end, which is, afterall, the very definition of fear. We fear the unknown and the uncertain, and most of all, a lack of control over our situations. The rest of the Bible, however, i find quite comforting at times. It has many TRUE stories that help us in daily life and i would not give it up for anything. The Bible, which will not always necessarily "scare", but will instead, extract the hell out of you.

As a Christian I do not see anything to "fear" with regard to hell? So I would most definitely have to dis-agree with your statement. Though I WOULD encourage all people everywhere to at least READ the Bible...they might actually LEARN the TRUTH!
PS...I would "fear" hell IF I was NOT a Chistian!! Though I know that those that do not believe there really is a place called hell...have no fear either.
But just because they "believe" that no hell exists does not mean that it is not a REAL place!
The TRUTH shall be revealed!

Truth can always seem scary and sometimes history is not always pleasant. The thing that scares me is that people are the reason for the destruction of earth and God watches with shame in His eyes.. and I always wondered if He doubted creating us in the first place. That is one scary thought!

Well, the bible has never personally scared me but I am comfortable in my own salvation and what I believe. On the other hand, I have seen people turn their whole life around from reading the bible and having the "fear of G-d" put in them.

Reading the Bible shouldn't scare you but should encourage you to live for him and serve him so you don't have to be scared. If people would read the Bible each day and follow it then you wouldn't be scared of it.

The Bible keeps me grounded. When I start thinking too highly of myself he sets me straight. Nothing in the Bible scares me.

You should start with the Gospel of John. Nothing horrible there except for Jesus' crucifixion. It's all God's love to mankind revealed to us through the man Jesus Christ. It's all about his wisdom and his miraculous powers that proved He was who He claimed to be, the Son of the living God.

hm, interesting turn of phrase.. I've read the bible cover to cover and in different translations over 50 times.. it didn't "scare" the hell out of me, but it certainly played a part in my leaving christianity behind.
