I know how that is. Part of my job requires handling meat from time to time. It’s something I don’t like doing but I do enjoy the other aspects of my job, so I stay. Plus I have bills to pay too.

If you really want to get out of there I suggest keeping an eye out for another job and once one becomes available grab it and get out of there.

Nope. As long as you know what you want, then you are fine. I'm a vegetarian too, and a while back I used to be vegan. Well, when I was vegan I worked at an ice cream stand. Explain that one! I just went the whole summer eating Popsicles.

You know your limits and you know what you can handle. If you truly want to be vegetarian and feel that you might slip up there, then maybe you should find a new job. But, if you have the will power to not eat meat and work there, then you have nothing to worry about.

Every human has a struggle and has to do what they can to get by. It's only bad if you aren't making enough money to feed yourself, I will tell you that.

I wouldn't quit unless I was absolutely sure I had another job to go to.

I briefly had to work at a pizza restaurant after I became a vegetarian; and I was making pizzas with meat on them--that was in a small town and I was having a really hard time finding a job. There were several better jobs open that I was qualified for--but they wouldn't hire me and I needed a job.

Sometimes things can't be 100% the way we want them to be. If they are, then you are very lucky--it certainly never worked that way for me. I have been working in state government jobs for about 20 years and I haven't been able to say I was somewhat satisfied with my job until about a year or two ago.

So this is your situation: you don't eat meat probably because of some animal cruelty issue and stuff, but you do work for somebody that promotes the consumption of meat and gladly accept the "blood wages" (a term a vegan friend used) that they pay you so that you can indulge in something that you don't really need.
This should not be an issue because work is work. People need to earn a living . But for you, it seems to be because of some ethical burden that you've placed on yourself. The choice is entirely up to you. Which is more important, your cell phone or the value system by which you have chosen to live.

No way. It's money. I HATE corporate giant scumbags and I work for one. You have bills. If your principles are that driven then quit but do you think by quitting people will say "hey maybe I should be a vegetarian also since that waitress/cook just quit". No they won't. The machine will roll on. But do what you feel you need to and stand by it and be proud of your decision. It is the heart of Man that makes us human.

NO. I am a vegetarian and I work in grilled chicken house and my husband work for fast chinese food. We feel guilty but this is where the money for us. What I always do when customer ask for recommendation, I most definitely won't suggest any meat meal. Or do what I do. Tell them you're a vegetarian and they'll get it ;).

No. Maybe you could ask the owner if they'd be willing to add a few vegetarian items to the menu(if they don't already have them.) Quitting your job when you have bills to pay would be irresponsible.

Are you OK with working there? If you are, you answered your own question. I couldn't do it. If the only job in town were at a slaughter house or meat packing plant would you take the job?

If you want to work there then you shouldn't quit. I would, but that's just because I wouldn't want to benefit from money raised by meat production... that's just me though. You're not encouraging it because if you weren't serving it, I'm sure someone else would, so if you're ok with that then just keep working there.

It's not 'bad', it's what you do to pay your way. It's a very fortunate person who can pick and choose who they work for, and a very fortunate person indeed who finds a job with an employer whose ethics they are in total agreement with.

You are doing what you have to do; well done. Only quit if you have another job to go to.
