What are the best, in your opinion, fake meat brands? I'm looking for ones that taste meat-like in texture and taste (sad to say, I still love the taste *feels guilty*) or anything that just is good. Thanks in advance. :) And yes, I already know tofu, tempeh, etc. can also be used. Brands that use them, though, would be nice. Vegan brands would be prefered, too, though not neccessary.

I'm a naughty girl who loves her analogues. Don't feel guilty because you love the taste. Nobody gets hurt when you eat analogues.

I make my own seitan and have veganized some meaty recipes. Many vegan cookbooks have ways of making great seitan. I use the recipes in "La Dolce Vegan" by Sarah Kramer.

Amy's Texas Burger is awesome!

Yves makes a good taco filling--preseasoned, all you do is heat it up and make your tacos.

There's a German company called Viana which makes several varieties of analogues. Their "Chickin Fillets" are totally awesome. You can buy them at www.veganessentials.com or www.veganstore.com.

Harvest Direct has a veggie ribs mix that's pretty decent.

If you like sausage, check out Tofurkey. They also have pretty good deli slices.

for "sausage" I really like Gimme Lean - they also make a "ground beef" but I've never tried it. My husband really likes bisquits and gravy, and the Gimme Lean is the closet I can come to the "real thing". Other than that, the IIves(?) brand of vegetarian "lunch meats" is pretty good.
for burgers, I really like the original garden burger. Or even better, a great big grilled portabello mushroom! Meaty!

Tofurky rocks the deli "meats" : http://www.tofurky.com/

I love Boca's vegan burger and chicken patties!

Lite Life (Gimme Lean) is also great- the above poster is correct..Its almost frightening how close it is, but not close enough that it will disgust you.

Sometimes too much similarity in texture is a little nauseating

I'm not a big fan of the meaty meat analogues, but I do have a fondness for Tofurkey's tomato and basic sausages. I like them chopped up in casseroles or on a bun with sauteed onions and peppers with mustard.

I'm not sure, but I just eat chicken. Google "fake meats" and see what comes up. Ask a grocer or butcher what they reccomend. If you're going to be vegan, you should learn to forget the taste of your fellow animals, too. I think you're cheating!
