Yea. To bad the environmentalist killed off our nuclear industry. Not only could we build them clean energy plants, but we could also run and manage them and charge them vast profits to do so!

Well China has been trying. It has asia's largest wind generator fields in Xinjiang. It is still investing into develping nuclear in a more resposible way. In the last three years there has been changes esp. in the city where i live in the north east of china. the thing thats most damaging is the winter coal boilers, but this year they have redistrubuted the excess hot water from the coal power plant is sent through the radiators of the buildings instead of buildings having induvidual boilers. They are doing what they can, the general view from people here is that we need to do something to save the environment, the thing is you cant just epect them to change over night, they are aware of it.
You got to envy them in a way, beijing has been able to set a law in which license plants ending in odd numbers can drive one day and even numbers the other. What Us city would be able to implement that with out total backlash from people.
Here there two big problem with environment is people making money off it like industry pollution and basic power and heating. unlike the west where peoples lifestyle is the main cause.
im not saying its so great here when it comes to pollution, far from it,, but i feel as if there is more hope here for the green movement, becauase of the lack of lobby groups. the government is aware that future delovpment depends on sound environment secutirty.
Have to ask your self why does the rest of the world have to suffer the effects of the waste caused by developed countries?

Because Coal is cheap, plentiful, and coal-fired plants are a mature power technology that has known costs and reliability.
Wind and Solar are both much less reliable than coal, much more costly, and have unknown maintenance issues (not to mention that wind also "kills the birds!")
Nuclear is only slightly more expensive than coal, so perhaps that is the way they "should" go in the eyes of the environmentalists.
But you still have to make it worth the money! China needs more power to modernize their industry and raise their standard of living. They can't afford to wait for better technology, they have needs NOW.

China is a saint when it comes to air pollution and caring? That is funny considering they are only concerned about costs and nothing else. They are extracting oil wherever they can find it and are producing any kind of energy they can get their hands on. I hear they will be drilling off the coast of Cuba soon but that is alternative energy right? I suppose we should nominate China for the next Nobel Peace prize?

Because they need the power NOW and they already know how to make coal power plants and they have lots of coal. They do not have the time or money to invent new kinds of power when they can barely supply enough power with the quick and dirty coal plants.

Coal is plentiful in China and easily recovered. This makes it the most economical choice for power generation.

China has huge coal reserves just like the USA...
It's the easiest energy source to exploit.
The US government or should I say the people currently controlling the US government, really don't want to change, so they stand in a place of no power to ask anyone else to change...
