I dont think there is but I want to make sure I have been given some pills by my Doctor and I dont *need* to take them they say they contain lactose and I dont want to have them if they dont go with my values of veganism. Could it be some synthetic type? What should I do. I will be fine if I dont take them, but I want to nkow if I can.

NO. My Compound Pharmacist makes my Meds up Lactose free. See if the doctor can write a script(Rx) for the meds then find your local Compounding Pharmacy:

Moral question here. Lactose is a milk sugar usually, and is usually made from the leftovers of the whey industry (cheaply, so synthetic is out of the picture), so it is from milk which goes against veganism. Now milk is an animal by-product, but it does not kill the animal. Such is the saying, raping and pillaging, but not murder.

You say you don't "need" the pills, but a doctor prescribed them. If you will be fine without them, then hold on to your values of veganism. But if your life could be made better, and if it is for a brief time, then take the pills and be thankful for the milk and give gratitiude. I know that if I was being raped or pillaged and I saw that there was someone grateful and loved me for the plight I was in, it would make me feel good inside (just like the women in Darfur who have to get water at night, and are raped by the soldiers, but they return in the morning with water for their families. Same life scheme, just different nouns are plugged in for the sentence).

Nope. Lactose is, by definition, milk sugar. Anything with lactose in it is defintely not vegan (although "lactic" might be). You might want to ask your doctor if there's a lactose-free option, such as a liquid.

Call your doctor and tell him that you need a vegan alternative.
