I"ve noticed when I lift weights my blood pressure increases. My doctor raised my blood pressure meds, and I haven't really talked to them about my intention to bodybuild and build muscle mass. But if they just look at me they can see that I'm trying..
any ideas?

I am a woman who lifts weights and doesn't seem to bother me to much because I only do it for a few minutes and then stop.

I only do it about 2 times per week too to avoid any problems with my bp.

just beware of your breathing (and ask your doctor first okay?)dont' hold your breath, that strains the heart, if you find you hold your breath (because the weight his high and this is natural) reduce the weights to where you can breath while you life. I bench press now 80 pounds and I can still breath while doing it, so my heart doesn't seem to pump that hard and pumps quietly, when it gets noisy I know I am doing to much and stop.

when i get to 100 pounds which is my goal as long as I can breath I will continue the moment I have to hold my breath to pump it the weights will be reduced.

but see your doctor first that way you can be sure everyone is different.

RRRR

If you are not taking any strange substances then as your level of fitness increases your chances of high blood pressure will decrease. It's no different to any other form of exercise in this instance, which as a pilot you should be aware is pretty much an essential for you.

If your blood pressure is high, do not do heavy weights. You might land up with a stroke. Your health is more important than your muscle mass. If you increase your medicin dose, your BP will drop & get giddyness.

Just walking into the store will raise you blood pressure or just sitting down and getting stressed out will raise it.

How high is it getting that is really what would matter.

i don't know about blood pressure, but doesn't it say in each magazine or each site for bodybuilders "before u start consult your physician"? this is what u should do. and your doctor is not a magician - he can't read your thoughts. also he doesn't need to guess whether u do bodybuilding or not. u have to inform him yourself
