I had a friend who found out he had AIDS last year. He committed suicide about three months later. I tried to make him understand that I would be there no matter what but the fact that his own mother didn't want o see him was too much for him. I want to urge anyone who knows someone with AIDS or HIV or anything to stick by the person and let them know they care because it makes no sense for a life to end that way.

No I wouldnt. Come to africa where the head of the house hold is usually a child of 12 or younger looking after all his/her siblings .....It is common here people look after each other and do not abandon their families. It is like a person with cancer, why would you abandon them?

Never.

I once helped a friend through his ordeal, since his entire family had turned their backs on him. I'll never forget the morning I had to call his mother to notify her that her son had passed on during the night. Her first question to me was: "what happened to his Nintendo game".

I knew then why my friend was so grateful for the friends that stood by him during a very bleak period of his life.

You can't get AIDS just by being around someone who has it. I would say stand by them and offer whatever support you can. Ask yourself..if it was YOU who had AIDS, would you want the love and support of family and friends?

No... never. My uncle was openly gay, and had AIDS for almost 15 years before he died in 2000.

He was cool to hang around with, never talked of his life style with men, or belittled himself in self-pity for having AIDS.

Remember, they are still people. Would YOU stop talking to some person because they had cancer? Diabetes? Chronic arthritis?

Probebly not.
