Assuming that you're going to a dinner party where the dinner is being provided, an interesting wine or liquer is always nice, as is a high quality chocolate item.

But one of my favorite hostess gifts is a game of some kind, like Table Topics, which is a deck of cards with ice breaker questions "would you prefer to be a man or a woman, and why?" or "what is your favorite holiday and why?" You set the deck on the table and whether you know the other guests or not, its great fun. There are decks that range from the raunchy to the thoughtful.

The best thing about that as a hostess gift is that many hostesses will use it at the party that night, right at the dinner table, so you get instant gratification.

Target has a good one called "If you were a cereal, what kind would you be?" for only $11.

I'd be a frosted flake.

It is constantly well manners to deliver whatever to the host of a celebration. However, despite the fact that I wouldnt brain should you partake of the dessert you introduced, I would see wherein the host would think that it's impolite. If the host has a dinner deliberate along side dessert and he or she doesnt serve yours, take it as a trace. I wager whilst theirs runs out, then they'll serve yours. Remember, you probably did purchase it for them, in order that they would use it one other day.

Ask your hostess what they may need or want. If they say nothing then bring something personal for them. Flowers, Candy, wine or if the hoidays a little tree ornament. Put a little thought into the person its for and what they like. It doesnt have to be expensive.

Check first to see if there's anything in particular they would like. If so, bring that. Otherwise ...maybe...

A nice box of chocolates or candies.

A bottle of flavoured Irish Cream for the coffee

Flowers are always nice.

I'd check with the host/hostess first and find out if there's something I can contribute. If they say "no", then I will bring a bouquet of flowers and a nice bottle of wine for the hostess.

What about a small gift basket of breads and jams and coffees that they can enjoy the next morning? That way they do not have to cook again and can just relax.
