what is the navy for. what do they fight for?

im asking what do they do? who do they fight and im seeing navy ships beeing bombed who bombs the ships?

The U.S. Navy was founded on 13 October 1775. The mission of the Navy is to maintain, train and equip combat-ready Naval forces capable of winning wars, deterring aggression and maintaining freedom of the seas. The best part about the Navy is that they do need permission or a host country to carry out their mission. They can operate from international waters almost indefinitely and strike almost any target at will through shore bombardments, cruise missile strikes, air strikes, mine warfare, subsurface attack, and amphibious assaults.
