Personally, I would DUMP him for being stupid for so long.

Cold sores are a result of Herpes Simplex type I virus ....

Here's a link that stupid needs to read:

http://www.aad.org/public/Publications/pamphlets/HerpesSimplex.htm

How can you stand that kind of emotional abuse. DUMP HIM!! He's just trying to beat you down so you feel like crap about yourself. My guess is he does and says other things to beat you down. Don't put up with it!!!!

I can personally attest to this as I am in the same boat you are. Hopefully he reads this with an open mind. I am sure the situation is tough for him too. First there is HSV1 and HSV2. They are both part of the same family of which there is about 7 strands of herpes. HSV1 occurs on the mouth area and HSV2 occurs in the genital area. Although they are considered sexually transmitted disease. you do not have to have sex to catch them. HSV1 is many time contracted by sharing drinks and in many cases is also genetic. If you have never had an outbreak in your genital area that you likely dont have HSV2 which is genital herpes.
Now please also note that many people have hsv1 and 2 and in some cases they have both. these same people also can go years and in come cases never have outbreaks.

So with that said, if you both get tested and you find out you have gential herpes then you cant really determine if he or you had it..because he can be a carrier of the virus and have no symptoms.

I have lived his cold sores my whole life. They suck! I had tried valtrex and ultimately the sores always came bck. I have included a link to a topical that is AMAZING!. tHIS LINK provide syou a discoutn on the topical an best of all. the topical actually dries out (the healing process) your cold sore with in minutes. You can read more information about herpes aka cold sores as well. The great part abou the topical is that it reduces your outbreaks and in many cases it doesnt come back. This is obviously different from valtrex which actually isnt tha tgreat.
i hope this helps. the topical is worth it.

it is a herpes virus. it could be either I or II. the second one can appear on the lips or genitals and is more severe then I. You can go to the doctors after an outbreak and get a blood test that will tell for sure what type you have had. you usually need to go within a few months of the outbreak so they can type it correctly. But YES cold sores are just a polite way of saying Herpes. Dont worry, more then 75% of the population already have it. Some people break out once and then never again...but they still have it, others break out bad for years then it becomes latent and may only break out once a year or less. Heck your boyfriend may already have it if he came in contact with your spit for about a week before any of your breakouts. He may not show signs of it for years though, or he may break out next week. It is often transmitted to children though well meaning adults who love to kiss their kids and grandchildren.

I believe there are two different types of herpes, genital and not. Having one probably doesn't mean you have the other. If my memory serves correct, people must possess a certain gene to be able to get cold sores, something not liked to the means by which genital herpes is contracted. Besides, if you have genital herpes, it would show up in the corresponding area. Many, many people get cold sores.

Look at this site, under the question "Are cold sores really 'herpes'"

I hope this helps!

He's half right. Cold sores is a form of herpes, it's Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) 1. Genital herpes is HSV 2 and is a little more painful. While either one can be found in the genital, mouth, or eye area, HSV 1 is more commonly found above the waist and HSV 2 is more commonly found below the waist. Tell your b/f that over 60% of the population has contracted HSV 1 before they're 20...so he's probably in that population as well. As for you having HSV 1 or 2...only a doctor can tell you that, and that's only by testing.

I got identified with herpes simplex virus (type 2) about 6 years ago, when I was still attending college and had a dumb one-night stand. I know a lot of young ladies will declare this, but I swear I had certainly not done that sort of thing before. I just made a massive mistake that one time and suddenly it seemed like I was going to have to live with the implications for the rest of my life. The worst part was feeling I could never date men again. In the end, who wants to go out with a girl that has sores round her private parts? But since a friend shared this video https://tr.im/bZGas everything improved.

Not only was I able to eradicate all traces of the herpes virus from my body in less than three weeks, but I was also able to begin dating once more. I even met the man of my dreams and I'm so lucky to write that just last week, in front of everyone in a packed cafe, he got down on one knee and proposed to me! This method provided the opportunity to be happy and experience real love. Now I want to help you too by sharing this with the whole World.

I don't know if you know this but cold sores are herpes, and if you perform oral on him while you have a cold sore on your mouth then he will get genital herpes. he has every right to be concerned. I commend him for wanting to play it safe instead of just taking your word for it. You can tell him that.

Yes, Oral Herpes can transmit to the Genitals, typically
via oral sex. Genitals Herpes can
also transmit to the mouth area via oral sex.

Both Oral and Genital Herpes are caused by
Herpes Simplex. Oral Herpes by
HSV1 and
Genital Herpes by HSV2.
The two viruses
are very similar and are both highly adaptable.

No, there are 2 types of herpes. Oral (Type I) and genital (type II).

NOW... that being said. They are both herpes infections. IF you have an active cold sore and you have oral sex, you CAN transmit the herpes to his genitalia and presto..... he has "genital herpes".

So..... keep in mind they ARE different infections but oral lesions can be transmitted to the genitals, genital lesions are much less likely to spread to the mouth however due to the mouths acidity.. So avoid oral sex if you have a lesion... or kissing for that matter.... as long as your cold sore is symptomatic (not totally healed over) you are contagious. You can get on oral Valtrex to decrease your cold sore outbreaks and Abreva helps as well.

Good luck, I hope this clarifies things....

Cold sores ARE herpes, but you can have herpes either orally or genitally.

If you have it orally, does not mean you have it genitally.

You probably have herpes simplex 1 (hsv-1) on your mouth. 8 out of 10 people have this orally.

It can also cause genital herpes, in fact 50% of genital herpes is caused by hsv-1, but you are only likely to have hsv-1 genitally if you do NOT already have it orally.

For example, I have genital herpes hsv-1, which I caught from my boyfriend, who has oral hsv-1 like you, giving me oral sex.

Half of genital herpes cases are caused by another type of herpes, hsv-2. You could get tested by blood test for hsv-2 - it is worth having it done, as 1 in 4 women have genital herpes whether they are aware of it or not - you usually have few if any symptoms - like cold sores, it is dormant most of the time.

If you got a blood test, it would most likely show you tested positive for hsv-1. It would not tell you if your infection is oral or genital, but since you have symptoms orally it is likely you only have it orally.

So, you have oral herpes, that is a definite. That means that you are able to give someone genital herpes through oral sex, as my boyfriend did to me, even when you don't have a cold sore - it is infectious some of the time when you have no symptoms at all.

However, since 8 out of 10 people get cold sores, 8 out of 10 people are unlikely to catch genital herpes from you this way. If your boyfriend doesn't get cold sores himself, he could get genital herpes hsv-1 from receiving oral sex from you, but if you have been together 9 years and he hasn't caugh it, it proably means he is one of the 8 out of 10 who are also infected with the virus like you, only he is one of the lucky 90% who don't get symptoms.

Most people catch oral herpes as children from being kissed by family or other chidren - it is not usually caught sexually and is not a reflection of your sexual practices.

Apart from location, there is no difference between genital herpes and oral herpes, apart from the likelihood as to which virus you have (more likely to be hsv-1 if it is oral herpes) - you can get both viruses in either location and the symptoms are EXACTLY the same as oral herpes. All genital herpes is is a cold sore 'down there'.
