With the menu you describe, chocolate would be a good way to go, but you can make it more interesting than chocolate cake. Try a Chocolate Cheesecake or a Fallen Chocolate Cake with Raspberry Coulis.
If you're not much of a baker, check out Costco for the Falling Chocolate Cakes. Heat them up at home, but make them really special by adding a homemade raspberry coulis ...
1 1/2 pints fresh raspberries or 2-12-ounce packages frozen raspberries
1/2 cup confectioners sugar
1 Tbsp fresh lemon juice
Cook the raspberries and sugar over medium-low heat for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Strain through a fine mesh sieve (strainer) to remove any seeds. Add lemon juice and chill.
Or, since your meal has an Italian flair, Tiramisu would be tasty, too.

I would do something chocolate.......
MOLTEN CHOCOLATE LAVA CAKES
½ C. butter, unsalted
4 oz. bittersweet chocolate
2 eggs
2 egg yolks
¼ C. sugar
2 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
Butter and flour custard cups or specialty molds. Preheat oven to 450ºF. Melt the butter and chocolate, but do not let it boil. Remove from heat and set aside. Beat together the 2 eggs plus 2 yolks and the sugar, until it's light and thick... about 5 minutes. Pour the now tepid chocolate mixture into the egg mixture, and beat to mix. Quickly beat in the flour until just mixed in. Pour into the custard cups. (At this point you can refrigerate for up to 24 hours. If you refrigerate, let return to room temp before you bake.) Put custard cups on a baking sheet and bake at 450ºF for 6-7 minutes. The outside will be set up, but the top may still be slightly wiggly. Invert on plate, let sit for 10 seconds or so, remove custard cup. Sprinkle with powdered sugar, and surround with a raspberry sauce or add a scoop of ice cream or real whipped cream on the side -- your choice.

After that meal I don't think he would be able to eat a dessert. If anything no cake or brownies. Something light, maybe a cranberry sorbet to go with the dressing or a fruit pie but that may be too sweet. It doesn't have to be as light as lemon meringue pie but not as heavy as pecan pie. Maybe a homemade cheescake, the kind that melts in your mouth.

I'm thinking you should have him bring a dessert, since he knows what he loves and I'm sure that he's thrilled that you are cooking for him! If not, take a run over to Trader Joes and have a looksee in their frozen foods dept. They have some scrumptious tarts and pies etc. there that would compliment your meal. Don't forget the hot french bread!

oh, Tiramisu...that's the only thing...
seriously, that's the first thing I thought of when I read the title of the question....or creme brullee (i probably spelt that wrong)
if you don't want to make it, because sometimes make the dessert is the hardest part, a lot of supermarkets sell frozen fancy desserts that you just pop in your oven. Stop and Shop brand (essentia) is awesome, especially the creme brullee and the molton lava cakes (and they usually come in a 2 pack..perfect for a romantic dinner!)

Since it sounds very "Italian" already, what better way to top it off than with a good cannoli...yum!
Your meal sounds delicious by the way!!!
