ok i know someone with it, and this in my opinion is the only con: you have to enter in any and everything you eat, as far as sugar level, otherwise, if insurance witll pay 100%, go for it!!!! It has more freedom than syringes, and no one will know u have it, but u may have to adjust your seatbelt with it on. My hubby drives cab, and the day time driver wears one and she caused an accident fiddling with it ,and she wasn't wearing her seatbelt, cause she said the belt irritated the pump site. She nearly lost her liscence. In my opinion, she should have anyway, cause her attention was not on the road, but her pump. She could have killed someone. But in yer case, I would get it, and get used to it. It is a great way to keep track of your diabetes, and i hear they are verrry expensive. get it now while the offer is good for u to do so.

I'd like to add my 2 cents and say I was on MIDI for 40 years before pumping. I've now been pumping for almost 9 years and love it. It affords me the freedom I didn't know for those 40 years. But remember it's not the pump that control our Diabetes, it's the education that must go along with wearing it. You must be able to count carbs, know your insulin to carb ratio for all mealtimes and be willing to test more often. If you decide you'll love it as I do.
By the way I drive and never had any problems with seat belt not fitting or irritating my infusion site.

Pros
* improved control of your diabetes
* more flexibility with eating and scheduling
* Medtronic's continuous glucose monitoring feature allows user to see trends, and react to them before high or low glucose levels happen.
* wizard on Medtronic pumps does calculations of how much insulin is needed based on how much active insulin you have and what your current blood glucose level is, and how much you are about to eat.
* One poke every 3 days or so, instead of multiple daily injections!

Cons
* adjustment period when you start the pump can be really frustrating.
* it can take awhile to get used to sleeping in the thing.

I don't really have many cons with my pump. I just love the thing, and once I got through the initial period of adjustments, the pump is a great thing. It is so convenient. I don't think I would ever go back to the shots.

After 30 years of injections, I went on a pump. There are no cons worth avoiding the pump. All my previous concerns faded away once I started enjoying the benefits.

Pros: better control, more flexible eating, more convenient (e.g. bolus insulin while sitting in a taxi or airport)

the best part of pump is sticking once every 3 to 5 days rather than MDI!! You must be very conscientious about carb counting is the only con I can think of. And we have to do that anyway.

Go for it!! you should get much better control and loads more freedom.

pros no more shots, i was taking 5 to 8 a day, the cons having to change your spot every 3 days but that's better than the shots. i also don't like being hooked up to it and having to find a place to hang it

my boyfriend uses an insulin pump.
he likes it because he says he has better control over his blood sugar by using the pump and not shots.
he says that you can't even feel it, but sometimes it does get annoying always carrying it around in your pocket.
