Since turning 40 I'm alarmed at how much weight I've put on and it's really hard to lose any. I've also developed high blood pressure so I'm wondering whether one has caused - or contributes to - the other.

Yes, a bit alarming at this age, NO it's not hard to loose weight, but one has to lead a disciplined life. Both are dependent on one another /superimposed.
Do physical daily, and sweat yourself out while walking but no over doing, OK.
Eat healthy diet, no fat, no sugar, no red meat, lot of fibre veg.
No stress and strain. Lead a normal simple disciplined life and your BP will be normal.

Both can contribute to the other. High blood pressure can make it harder to lose weight because of the regulation. Don't let that scare you. I don't have high blood pressure, am in my 50's, and, compared to high school graduation, am alarmed at MY weight gain. I'm working on it, though.

your weight gain will mean your heart will have to work harder to push the blood around the body at the same time your increase in weight will probably have increased your colestrol levels and this thins the arteris making it even harder for the blood to flow and again putting an extra strain on your heart ,,best bet is change to a healthy diet ,get more exercise and get in and see your doc about tests for blood pressure, colestrol etc ,its yor weight gain that causing you any problems and will only get worse

Hello

Increased weight will contribute to higher blood pressure NOT the other way round.

Ask your GP for referral to a dietitian and they can really help you.

I've lost 5 kilos in my first week. It's my 10th day and I have included salad with some protein (eg. egg/ lean chicken) as you suggested. After 4 years of trying, the fat is finally coming off. It truly feels like magic!

Get started today!

cut out the beer and spuds - well at least cut down on your carb intake. Exercise, start off slow.
