Asking for immediate relief from being thirsty due to high blood sugar is kinda like an overweight person asking to lose weight quickly. The sensible approach is to learn all you can about controlling your blood sugar and working toward a solution gradually. In the interim, drink lots of water... and add a little lemon juice, if you like. Metformin simply aids your body in glucose management... it does nothing (directly) for your thirst. That can only be managed with tight blood glucose control.

Diabetic thirst is demanding, and rules your life. You can drink pints of water, and the thirst will not decline, however much you drink. To get rid of it, you have to reduce your levels of blood sugar. Metformin helps sort your insulin resistance, not reduce blood sugar levels, and works over a period of time. The only thing I have found any good is to do an insulin injection, that works quite quickly. Anyone on injections shouldn't let things get so bad that they experience thirst, but we are all human.

I recall before I was diagnosed the thirst was absolutley dreadful, and totally unquenchable. However now I only get a thirst if my blood sugars are high. So first and foremost ensure that your BG's are within normal range, if they are then medication should only be taken if youe GP (doctor) advises. There is no cure for that dreadful thirst but cool water is the a good start.

Getting your sugar under control will reduce the thirstiness. It is a side effect of high blood sugar. Also be sure to drink 8-10 glasses of water daily. It is the body's way of trying to compensate for the concentrated sugar in your blood by making you drink more water to dilute it and lower it.
