I know that unplugging electronic devices saves electricity, but what about mechanical devices like toasters and coffee pots?

Appliances only use what you see. If you're not making coffee, just the little clock, if it has one, uses very little. A regular toaster plugged or unplugged causes zoro electric flow. Unless you're toasting. A TV, waiting for the remote to turn it on uses very little power and should not be concerned about. I must say, The electric companies want desperatly for everyone to use less electricity. So they can raise rates and everyone pays the same without noticing it. Little florescent bulbs are great!

Electronic devices sometimes uses little power to enable auto wake up. The energy is really minimal.

Other devices may have a pilot light when not used but again the use is minimal.

The actual wastage occur when used. For example filling a kettle to the top for making 1 cup of tea.

A water geyser is another high energy consumer.
It keeps the water at high temperatures even when no water is needed.
