Nyquil has a lot of alcohol in it, so it will burn if it goes down the wrong tube. I can suggest gargling with salt water. Also, if your cough is still persistant, you may have an upper respiratory infection. Go see your doctor. Otherwise household items such as a spoonful of honey, or a warm water/salt gargle will be helpful. You can use the Nyquil still. This also has a pain reliever in it. Just be careful how you swallow it. Dayquil works well too. Not as much alcohol if it goes down the wrong tube. Feel better.

you aspirated. you may get pneumonia from this. nyquil has alcohol and sugars in it. that is not good for your lungs. sorry this happened. it is very painful to aspirate. I would suggest drinking a lot of fluids. esp water, it is a natural expectorant. this will help you cough up anything that is in your lungs. go to the doctor if you become febrile...get a temp. or if the coughing lasts more than two days. you may need some antibiotics. good luck.

I had the same thing happen to me on Saturday night but with a shot of Rumplemintz. I blocked my nose and tried to down the shot, and all of the sudden I choked and I couldn't breathe and my lungs hurt so bad I thought I was dying! All night long they hurt , the next day, they felt better but I have this cough with phlem that won't go away!!When will it go away!? I was perfectly healthy before. I've never experienced this before. --Gretch- was it aspirating like you called it?

Flu season has arrived........Drink alot of fluids...hot tea with a bit of lemon and honey will soothe the cough and throat...drink plenty of water, some vitamin c..Orange juice...,

for the raw throat.....put a tsp. of salt in a glass and fill with Warm water...stir..then Garggle* at the back of your throat and spit it out. This will take the inflamation down from the back of your throat. I then take a tsp of Honey to soothe my throat and take the "salt" taste away...then drink the hot tea with a bit of lemon and honey *,...have soup.,jello, mashed potatoes."soft and easy" foods to swallow.

For the pain..take advil or tylonol. If the cough is very nasty, and you're spitting up/coughing up...Green or Yellow phlem...you need to get some antibiotics from the doctor. If it's not green or yellow...get plenty of rest, drink plenty of fluids and stay warm~

If your throat still feels like razor blades after gargling with salt/warm water...and taking the soothing honey/tea...go to the docs to get your throat checked out. (tonsilitis or strep throat could be the cause)

Takecare, hope you feel better soon~
