Yes if your Cholesterol is marginally high it works. I you have very high degree of cholesterol, you can not depend only on this and you to take some Statin group medicine like - Atorvastatin, Cerivastatin, Fluvastatin, Lovastatin, Mevastatin, Pitavastatin, Pravastatin, Rosuvastatin, or Simvastatin, which are of lipid-lowering drugs that reduce serum cholesterol levels by inhibiting a key enzyme involved in the biosynthesis of cholesterol.

Benecol is a food product line marketed by McNeil Nutritionals intended to reduce dietary cholesterol. The active ingredients in Benecol products are plant stanol esters, added to base products including margarine-like spreads and yoghurt. Because of regulatory issues, different products are available in different countries; for example, in the United States, only the spreads, and in Turkey, Kalbim Benecol margarine are available.-

It does work but only reduces your cholesterol slightly. It depends on what your body is producing i.e My cholesterol was sky high..i don't smoke..my diet is fairly good..and i keep very active playing a lot of sports but the doctor has told me that its my body that's over producing cholesterol so he has put me on simvastatin. At first i was on 40mg but this has since been increased to 80mg as it only brings the reading down to a certain level..I have been told that i am on these tablets for life now.If in doubt about your cholesterol levels get it checked out.

How high is your cholesterol and who measured it.
Over 5 is considered high but it is the ratio of good to bad cholesterol that is more relevant
Only thing I know that works to reduce cholesterol is Simvaststatin, and that is prescribed by your G.P. after measuring your cholesterol level after overnight fasting.
