No.
When people sneeze, they inhale afterwards. The belief was that if The Devil was nearby, you could inhale him and become evil. Saying "Bless You" was supposed to interfere with the Devil's trying to position himself with your soul, and he'd depart from you instead.

NO NO NO its a myth, if your heart stopped beating it would not start again and you would die..thats why the hospitals use those electric pads on someones chest to get their heart beating agian once it has stopped from a heart attack or something......the reason we say god bless you is because in the middle ages they belived all illness was caused by the devil (cos all we had was religion, medicine was not developed yet) when someone sneezed you realised a deamon or a deamon entered you etc...so people would ask god to bless you.....what im wondering is how the heck that saying stuck for 500 years.

Yes. People believed that the devil could enter your body and take over your soul when your heart skips a beat (stops) for sneezing. So, to prevent him from coming in you would tell someone 'Bless you' whenever a person sneezes.

that's ridiculous. That's one myth, but it's not proved true. No one knows how it started, so there are many myths. One I find makes the most sense is below.
No one knows why people started to say 'bless you', but there are many reasons. Apparently it did start around the time of the Black Plague in Europe because the first, early symptoms of having the Bubonic disease was sneezing. It was a common effort to stop the disease by 'ridding of the evil spirits' and such, being used as a sort of shield against evil.
No one knows why, so you can't say it's JUST that your hearts stops for a split second.

No. The theory I read about goes like this:
During the times of the Plague in Europe, sneezing was an early symptom of the plague. People would say "God bless you" because there was a good chance that you may have the plague and would soon be a goner.
Here is a link that verifies it: http://www.straightdope.com/mailbag/mgesundheit.html
Hope that helps.

Well yes. When you sneeze, your heart stops beating for less than one second, so a very small amount of time.
