I am 19 years old. I am a hypochondriac, I suffer from OCD and an acute phobia of HIV.

I am a virgin, waiting for marriage. I have never used HIV drugs. My parents are completely healthy.

My concern today is...I just had this terrible itching on my leg and I looked and it is a tiny less than half an inch slit in my skin on the front on my thigh and it itches so so bad. I took my loufah and put some soap on it and scubbed it. however, I am worried because what if someone cut me with an HIV infected sharp object and this is HIV????

Please help!

I am having major problems right now.

I am currently in counseling for my fears. I have only endured about 2 sessions so far.

Please help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is this an HIV infected cut?

I wasn't around anyone whom I didn't know. The only 2 people I was around are my two best friends who wouldn't do this to me.

Other than that, I don't recall anyone pricking or cutting me unless I was asleep last night...however the door was locked.

Don't worry, it's probably nothing that bad!
I frequently end up wondering where the hell numerous bruises and cuts have come from, and usually there is no answer. They just happen.
As for an itching cut, it might be infected. Look to see if it's red around the edges. Don't worry - your leg won't fall off, it simply means it'll take a bit longer to heal than normal, maybe one or two days. Wipe it with an antiseptic wipe - you can get them from most chemists etc. You might also want to cover it with a plaster to stop fluff/dirt getting into it. Scrubbing it with a loofah probably didn't help too much as they're surprisingly sharp - you might have cut it slightly more. Also try not to itch it, as this can make it worse too.
If you're still really worried, go see a doctor. They might be able to give you a HIV test, though I think it's highly unlikely it's that bad.
Good luck with your counselling! Hope you feel better soon :)

I get on here every night and you have different stuff and situations to tell about how you may have contracted HIV I feel really sorry for you that you are so stupid, dumb and uneducated about the disease. Also the road that you are going down could possibly lead you to probably catching HIV or some other diseases because you are so stupid. Somebody will probably end up poking you with an infected needle or someone will probably put infected blood in your mouth while you are sleeping or sling blood in your eye while you are in public. And then and only then, you will probably end all of this HIV talk and you will finally succeed at what you want and that is contracting the HIV virus. Sorry if this offends you but I just can't believe that you are so fu*@&#* stupid!!!!!!!!!!!! Please continue seeking counseling please.

I have OCD and one of my phobias was being infected with HIV even though I had done nothing that would be considered risky. I can't tell you how much medication helped me. I personally take an older OCD drug called Anafranil but there are others that work too. Ask your doctor about getting on medication in addition to the counseling. It has made my life 500% better. I can think like a "normal" person now even though I hate that word. I know how miserable the panic attacks can be. Hugs and best wishes.

There is no way to be sure from you description... It could be an infected wound. The cut could have been from something you nicked as you were moving something or it could have been from you just rubbing on something. You are a virgin so that helps. I am very glad to hear you are saving yourself for marriage. I really admire that. I wish I could hear about more people doing the same instead of sharing intimacies with other people. Go see a doctor for your problem. I guarantee you are fine... Apply some rubbing alcohol, and don't be afraid! Good luck!

No its not HIV when cuts start to heal they sometimes itch and get a scab. You didn't get HIV just wash the cut out put neosporn and a band aid to keep it from getting an infection. You just need to keep going to your counseling. And just remember that you Have a low chance of getting HIV unless you sleep around with multiple partner unprotected. You were born with HIV,You got it from a blood transfusion,You are a IV drug user.those are some of the mane ways to get HIV .

Good luck with your counseling I feel for you and I hope you can overcome this

Hi, I am giving you a slap in the face over the internet. ()SLAP!) Get ahold of yourself ! You DO NOT have HIV, unless you have unprotected sex, use infected needles, have a bad blood transfussion. It is almost impossible get HIV from a scratch. Sometimes we get nicks cuts and scratches without knowing where they come from. It could come from your clothes, a chair, getting out of the bed. HIV dies once it comes into contact with air. So to get it is hard unless sharing body fluids. Blood or Semen. So take a deep breath and CALM DOWN!!!!!!! You will be ok. Put some hydocortisone on it and a band aid and let it be. :)))

Keep with the therapy. It will work.

The odds of your cut being "HIV infected" are really zero. You haven't had sexual contact, don't do drugs, probably didn't have a blood transfusion with tainted blood, or any other risk factor for HIV.

Symptoms of HIV don't include itchy cuts.

Stop worrying and start enjoying life. It's really okay out in the world. People have been around for millions of years, and we get by. We have strong immune systems and robust constitutions. We're survivors. And so are you.

Holy cow, man, chill out. You don't get HIV from an infected cut. It is normal for a healing cut to itch. Don't put stuff on it and for Heaven's sake don't "scrub" it. Let it heal.

About all that other stuff -- consider that your body has a remarkable ability to heal and to resist infection. It is entirely an ordinary thing to have the occasional ache, sniffle, or itch. Get out of the house and your paranoia will decrease. Hiding out alone is probably the worst thing for you to do. Oh -- and quit watching those X-Files reruns.

You obviously have phobias and recognize the fact. So why would you jump to the conclusion this is HIV? Cuts will itch when they are trying to heal, as the skin dries and the scab forms. This is nothing to worry about. Find something to occupy your time till your next counseling session. You need to stop stressing about stuff that is nothing.

i kinda understand what your going through. i never feared getting hiv as i dont have sex much. but a few months ago i was told my last partner may have HIV and so i panicked got tested. and after 10 months since i had sex i was neg. after that i was fine went donated blood. 2 days later i kept contemplating if the needle they stuck me with was contaminated. that thought is so absurd seeing as how they use needles once and the needle was new out of packaging. so after a week of constant thoughts of having HIV i went to a therapist. and got tested 6 weeks after donating. of course i was neg. the point of this whole thing is that people just dont get hiv through random day to day activity. about .4% of the US population is infected with HIV/AIDS. meaning from a random cut to infect you would be like almost zero. dont let this ruin your life. you just have to let go of these thoughts.

also i had a paranoia similar to yours when i was going through my hiv phase. i live with 3 other people and we ordered food woke up the next day and some one had eaten the leftovers. no one admitted to it. so instead of thinking one of them was lying i automatically assumed some one came in and either injected us with a dirty need or something silmilar. and i found a mark on my stomach which i thought was a needle. i got over that and now moved on i suggest you try and do the same.
