A Nurse Practitioner is a very responsible position and usually pays well.
However, consider your own personality and working conditions requirements.
Nurse practitioners usually work in Doctor's offices during daytime office hours.
Surgical Nurses start early in the mornings but there are factors of interest there.
Emergency Room nurses can work long hours but there is always an element of excitement because you have no idea what's going to happen. every shift will be different.
General patient care nurses can also work long hours on various shifts but if you want more personal interaction with patients, this could be a good choice for you.
Choosing nursing is a good career field. There is always a need for good nurses - anywhere you may choose to live. Good pay and benefits are usually part of the package.
It should also be personally rewarding to help others.

We can all tell you whatever "we" specialize in is better but it all depends on what field you want to go into, how much responsibility you can handle, who you want to be in charge of, what kind of patients you want to work with or if you even want to work with patients and if your in it for happiness or money. I'm working my way up to a Nurse Practitioner, but who knows if I will think it is better than my current type of nursing, I think you will find out when you get there, as will I. There are so many fields of nursing I really don't think any 'one' nurse can tell you what is the "better type".
Good Luck with the answer you are seeking, I hope my input helped.
