I'm a vegetarian. And we were in a group, and a guy in the group who fancies me yesterday must have said about 3 times 'I don't like hurting animals ever' and I think he was probably just saying it because he knew I am vegetarian, but anyway, eventually when he said 'I don't like hurting animals ever' for the like 3rd time, I said 'But you don't mind eating them' but I wasn't being really serious, I just laughed. Was I justified? I know it's something I shouldn't be worrying about or anything, but I'm just wondering what you thought? If that was okay to say?

Sounds like the guy had a screw loose. You were justified in saying what you said in order to get him away from you and stop saying what you were saying.

Who knows maybe he was a crazy vegan (not a normal nice vegan)

You say whatever you feel you want to say.

I do agree with how you picked up on his contradiction. We get a few people in this forum who say stuff like "....Don't get me wrong, i love animals, but I love my steak..." or "i love animals and eat meat" or " i don't agree with animal cruelty but eat meat"

To me the things are contradictory.

You could have asked him " so are you against animal cruelty ?"
He is sure to say yes.
Your reply could be " So would you say unnatural death caused by humans is cruel ?

He will either be stumped by his hypocrisy or say "yes" because he wsn't thinking straight. Then you could point out his mistake

Ask him "Is death hurting an animal ?"

OR, you could just ignore him

I agree. If he was saying it over and over, it seems he was trying to prove a point. Why not point out that his "point" is rather rounded? I don't preach vegetarianism, but if someone's logic seems way off, I will gladly point it out.

I think he was probably just acting on his feelings (lol) but you were completely justified by calling him on it!

Still, and i know you know this, it is hard becoming a vegetarian, and he might be working towards it!

Thanks!

I don't see why that wouldn't be okay. If he said it three times it seems like it needed a comeback.
