The amount of lancets and test strips that you need for your friend, all depends on how often they test. If they are Type I, they might test 6-7 times a day, whereas if they are Type II, they might just test 2-3 times a week.

Normally the meter kits will contain a few test strips, a few lancets, a control solution and the meter. Sometimes they just have the meter.

To test blood sugar you need a meter, whatever kind of strips it uses, a finger pricker and whatever your meter uses for calibration. If you buy a blood testing kit then it should have all you need in it. You'd just need extra testing strips. You do not need a syringe for testing.

It would help if you could check that the strips for the meter can be obtained in your country.

Any of the Accu-check products are good, as are any One Touch products.

With the newer types of insulin these days, diabetic diets aren't necessarily as restrictive as they used to be. Read here https://tr.im/rRaPg
As with any medicine or diet change, you should discuss it with your doctor. Fruits, both fresh and dried, have a natural sugar in them that will raise blood sugar levels, so be careful about eating too much. Not sure about the nuts. Moderation is always the key. I've been diabetic for 18 years and just recently changed insulin types. I love it because it gives me more freedom in when and what I eat.

If you get a accu-check advantage meter( you can usually find them free, the company make its profits off the strips) Send me a mailing address and I will send you 3 boxes(150) of the strips free. My meter went bust and my new meter does not take these strips. Send to yinsect@yahoo.com.

The strips are what's expensive. Any kit will probably include everything. Freestyle works good.
