Since vegetarians don't eat meat, do eggs count since it's with the "meat" catagory? Also, how do vegetarians get protein if they don't eat burgers and such?

Some vegetarians eat eggs....It is a bi-product of animal not the animal itself....
Vegans do not eat any animal or animal by-products which would include eggs, cheese and milk....
There is enough protein in other foods. Foods such as leafy greens, legumes, tofu....even potatoes have a certain amount of protein!!! So....meat is not necessary

Eggs are a personal call for each vegetarian. Most vegetarians use the prefixes lacto- (meaning milk) and ovo- (meaning eggs) to clarify what they do and don't eat. For example, lacto-ovo-vegetarians eat both eggs and dairy. Those who eat eggs do so because it is a single, unfertilized cell, will never grow to be a live chicken and, therefore, isn't dead.

Vegetarians get more than enough protein, even without eggs and dairy. There is protein in most foods and most Americans eat far, far more than they need. We get our protein from soybeans and soy foods (tofu, tempeh, edamame, meat analogs,) beans and other legumes (lentils, peas, peanuts, chickpeas,) whole grains, nuts and seeds, fruits, vegetables, and even mushrooms have protein.

vegetarians that eat egg would be called ovo-vegetarians, and there are PLENTY ways to get protein, really you don't even need to try, most people get an overdose of protein...just eat a variety of vegetarian/vegan foods; fruits, veggies, whole grains, nuts, legumes and such. Also there is the lacto-vegetarians=which eats milk and cheese, and there is a selection of egg replacer, one brand that I've used is Ener-G

Modern vegans and vegetarians can buy many protein products and the grocery or health food store these days. But if you want to get basic, always combine a grain with a legume to make a complete protein meal. Think of the poor of all nations and the foods they survive on. For instance, rice & beans, pasta e fagioli, and all the soybean foods of Asia.

Eggs and dairy are a matter of choice-vegans don't eat either.
A handful (1oz) of most nuts, a cup of any beans or a cup of soymilk will fulfill the protein requirement for the day of all but very large or very active people. That's before the surprising amounts of protein found in many veggies and all whole grains : )
