We are having our Thanksgiving tomarrow. So almost everyone here who is going to celebrate has..so your recipe was tested on Thursday. If it was good can I have the recipe? I want to make a brown gravy for my tofu turkey. AND NO I prefer not to just buy one. I love to cook. SO since you guys have already tested it out for sure...spill. Now you have to include all the details unless they are a given. K. Thanx guys.

Oh a mushroom gravy or something like that would go good too. It's not a Tofurkey..I made it myself...but the seasonings are almost exactly the ones you put on a real dead turkey......rosemary..celery..oninon..herbs that are in a normally herb stuffing...not going to name them all but you get the picture of what it's going to taste like. If you think some other gravy might go good by all means share......always willing to try new things that sound tasty.

I'm getting that Cambells gravy is good..but I really want to make my own. I will definantly have to try that out another time though. So many remarks about how good it is surely there's something to it.

Nice brown gravy i made.

* diced onion 1/2 to 1 c, i used green shallots or whatever they are
* 2 tbsp oil
* 2 tbsp flour
* 1 clove garlic, smashed up or chopped really small
* 15 oz veggie stock (i make broth by boiling down 4 carrots 4 celery stalks, some onions & green beans & soy sauce w/ a half can of tomatoes in 6 quarts water for 2 hours or so)
* 2 tbsp soy sauce
* black pepper

fry onion in oil for 5 min

add flour & cook 5-10 min or until the onions & flour are brown & the onions are soft & pulpy

add garlic & stir in stock

bring to boil, reduce heat & simmer 10 min.

add soy & pepper.

*note i think I added a little too much broth in mine, so i thickened it up with some cornstarch (about 1 tbsp in 2 tbsp cold water, stirred in, brought to boil & stirred till cooled & thickened)

REALLY RICH & very tasty on mashed taters & tofu & stuffing etc.

enjoy!

I got this from www.vegcooking.com. it's delicious!

Instead of olive oil/margarine I used canola oil and I also used vegetable broth instead of water

Vegetarian Gravy

3 Tbsp. olive oil or melted margarine
3 Tbsp. flour
2 1/2 cups water or vegetable stock
3 Tbsp. dark soy sauce
salt and pepper to taste

• Heat the oil in a saucepan and add the flour. Stir over moderate heat for a few minutes until the flour turns brown.
• Pour in the water or stock and stir slightly until thickened. Simmer for 10 minutes, then add the soy sauce and a little seasoning to taste, if desired.

I used this:

heat up a tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat
add one small yellow onion (chopped fine) and a few cloves of garlic, pressed

saute five minutes

add one cup sliced mushrooms

saute two minutes

sprinkle on two tablespoons of flour (sifted, please)

add 1.5 cups of veggie broth, 2 tablespoons of soy sauce or tamari, 1 teaspoon of fresh thyme leaves, and salt and pepper to taste

boil it until it's the texture you want

I season with a bit of Marmite, too.

(For my broth, I sauteed a chopped onion and some garlic until they started to get brown, then threw in a handful of chopped carrot, chopped celery, the stems from the mushrooms, potato peelings- scrub the potatoes first, please, some peppercorns and bay leaves, and random veggie trimmings. Boil it, then bring it to a simmer for an hour and a half. Drain it, pushing on the veggies to extract liquid. The celery especially will release a lot.)

I despise mushrooms, and I can't say it enough! lol

I use 3 vegetarian vegetable bullion cubes in 2 cups of boiling water. Mix up some flour and water and stir in to thicken, and it makes a delicious gravy.
