Sexually transmitted disease (STD) is a term used to describe more than 20 different infections that are transmitted through exchange of semen, blood, and other body fluids; or by direct contact with the affected body areas of people with STDs. Sexually transmitted diseases are also called venereal diseases.

This term consist of several diseases. Disease transmitted primarily by direct sexual contact. STDs usually affect the reproductive system and urinary system but can be spread to the mouth or rectum by oral or anal sex. In later stages they may attack other organs and systems. The best-known are syphilis, gonorrhea, AIDS, and herpes simplex. Yeast infections produce a thick, whitish vaginal discharge and genital irritation and itch in women and sometimes irritation of the penis in men. Crab louse infestation can also be considered an STD. The incidence of STDs has been affected by such factors as antibiotics, birth-control methods, and changes in sexual behaviour. .-

STD stands for Sexually Transmitted Disease. It isn't actually a disease itself, it is a category of diseases that are transmitted or passed on during sex from one partner to the other. There is no way to get an STD if you have never had sex.

I'm guessing you're young, but it stands for Sexually Transmitted Disease. or STI, which is Sexually Transmitted Infection. Some can be cured, some cannot.

So it's really important you learn about it! It's a problem in today's society.

STD stands for sexually transmitted disease. It is also known as STI which stands for sexually transmitted infection b/c some people disagree with the term disease b/c some are curable & isn't a disease. Some examples of it are herpes, chlamydia, gonarrhea, etc. How you get it is self-explanatory, through sex!

It's an acronym...

STD = Sexually Transmitted Disease (replaced old VD term)

STI - Sexually Transmitted Infection (relatively new term)

VD = Venereal Disease (STD replaced this term because we all know many times love (Venus/ Vene~) has nothing to do with it.

Did you take sex education in high school, or were they not allowed to teach it?
