i just took my blood pressure and its 121/81. I'm pretty certain that is about average. I'm 21 years old. However my heart rate seemed fairly high at 98 bpm. is this normal?

I will call it excellent, you have clean bill. The pulse rate is higher in young females, and during mensus.
No need to worry, OK.

Both your top and bottom numbers are each only 1 point above the normal range. Your top number (systolic pressure) should be less than 120, and your bottom (diastolic pressure) should be under 80. It is very possible that external influences affected your results. If you were anxious or had just been doing any kind of physical activity it would explain the slight elevation. If you're concerned about it, though, check it again at least 2 or 3 times a couple weeks a part. High blood pressure is not diagnosed until one or both of your numbers is consistently high since there are a variety of factors that can affect your blood pressure. Pulse and blood pressure tend to be higher in athletes or people who are physically active.
The same goes for your heart rate. A normal pulse is anything between 60 and 100 BPM.
I'm guessing that you were doing some sort of physical activity that raised your pulse/blood pressure or you were nervous or anxious while measuring your numbers.

Depends on what you are doing. New guidelines have been set as anything lower than 120/80 is now normal with 120/80 and above pre-hypertension, and anything above 130/90 hypertension. The pulse rate fluctuates depending on any activity you did, if you walked and took your blood pressure right after, your pulse would be higher. The best way to get your resting pulse is in the morning right after you wake up.

Is there some reason why you are taking your blood pressure and your pulse? Normal blood pressure for you is what is normal for you. Some people walk around with blood pressure of 90/40 and that is their normal. For arguement's sake 120/80 is what is considered normal. 80 - 100 bpm on heart rate is what is normal.

A resting heart rate of 98 is not normal for a 21 year old. Take your resting heart rate over a few days. Write it down and ask your doctor. A resting heart rate over 100 beats a minute is called Tachycardia and should be investigated.

B/P is ok 98 is just a little fast but that can be dew to alot of stuff like did you just drink a soda with caffine or was you alittle upset about something. just because it is 98 one time dont mean much. was you at rest or where you moving around all this changes the heart rate it changes all the time. But when it stays up than you should check with a Dr.

Where you resting at the time you took your heart rate? Meaning had you been sitting there for about 5 minutes or so? Usually doing something excerts yourself so your heart rate goes up, my resting rate is usually around 80 but its different for everyone - more fit people have theres around 40 or so

Okay, what were you doing just before you took it? and were you in pain. Not that it's high. but if you were climbing stairs, just ate a big meal, or in pain, it does elevate your heart rate and your BP.
