As a vegetarian, you have a choice how far you wish to take it. You can abstain from flesh, you can go further and not eat gelatin (in marshmallows), or you can go all the way and try to avoid all hidden animal ingredients.

Some 'vegetarians' eat gelatine but when I was one I didn't and now that I'm vegan I definitely still don't. The reason I think that vegetarians by definition shouldn't consume gelatin is because it is made using dead animals. Granted it's not the flesh of an animal but I see this as irrelevant. You wouldn't call someone who ate the eyes, nails and bones of a dead animal a vegetarian and, seeing as gelatin is made up of ground bones and hooves etc, likewise someone who consumes such an ingredient should not be called a vegetarian. If they drink milk and eat eggs then they are vegetarian but this is because it is not a part of a dead animal but a live animal's by-product.

If you make 3 errors in the word "vegetarian", you might be a meat-eater. LOL :)
Vegetarians just don't eat meat. They have such easy rules.
Did you notice a vegetarian eating marshmellows, and wanted to point out that he's going against the rules. And you'd point it out only because he'd want to know?....
BTW: marshmellows are pure junk, and not at all worth the unsatisfying taste.
Happy Thanksgiving!!

Number one, it's spelled "vegetarian." Number two, it's spelled "marshmallows." Number three, it's spelled "gelatin." And number four, vegetarians do NOT eat gelatin, as that is from the bones, hooves, hides, and tendons of slaughtered animals. If it requires the death of an animal, vegetarians do NOT eat it.
There are vegan marshmallows available, but they're just not as good as the nonvegetarian kind.

No.
Vegetarians don't eat meat.
Gelatin is boiled horse parts,
which means meat.
So if someone eats food containing gelatin,
they are NOT a vegetarian.
---A vegan.

If you avoid ALL animal ingredients/products you are a Vegan, if you are Vegetarian you do not eat meat. Gelatin is not meat, it is pig fat and cooked down hooves and whatnot.
You can be mostly vegetarian also. I eat the occasional salmon or sardine or turkey. So, mostly "vegetarian".
Happy dinning to you.
ps: some health food stores carry much-better-for-you marshmellows and they are not made with gelatin.

No, that is a slaughter by-product and forms part of the reason for the death of the animal.
If you do it once by mistake don't beat yourself up over it, just look out for it next time

Its a choice.
I'm Vegetarian and I don't eat gelatin or use glycerin products. (both are made from ground-up horse bones)
My step-mum uses/eats both and she is also a vegetarian.
