Why do vegans and vegetarians hate flexitarians? Is it the name? Or is it that once a month or a couple of times a yr.(holdiday and social events) that these people may feel the need to eat a little bit of meat. I you eat meat more than once a month you are an omnivoure. I see nothing wrong w/ being a vegetarian most days of my life and then having a slice or 2 of turkey on thankgiving(free range of course). Thoughts and opinions pls. No bashing. Thanks in advance for your responses.

I was told, by my vegetarian friend, that if everyone would go meatless a few days a week, we would be saving more animals.

Eating meat or not eating meat is a choice. Other's opinions should not rule what you choose to do. Be true to what YOU believe because at the end of the day, only your opinion counts.

I hope this helps.

I think the name flexitarian is just a worthless title.
If you are truly vegan or vegetarian you don't eat meat. The reason I get frustrated, not hate, with people that consider themselves flexitarian is I don't understand why they consider themselves vegan/veg if they are okay with eating meat. The whole idea of veganism is to not consume animal products. It doesn't make since why you would break the rules once in a while to consume animal products. If you are okay with eating meat, why be vegan. Your morals would/should be against consuming animals. But, by eating them once in a while, its like justifying to yourself its okay you can't uphold a truly vegan lifestyle.
If veganism is truly important to a person, it shouldn't matter if its a special occasion or not, eating animals isn't right, and is unnecessary.

A lot depends on why they dont eat meat. If it is a killing the animals kind of thing then they probably wouldnt see any excuse for eating meat but if they follow this eating style for religious reasons, because it is healthier, to avoid hormones etc in farm raised animals then it might be acceptable to eat a taste of meat or dairy every once in a while. You have to remember its your life. No one is monitoring your eating habits but you and no vegan friends are spying on you. Do what ever you feel comfortable with and just dont discuss it with others who may not agree with you.

Vegans and vegetarians have beliefs that don't flex for occasions. They believe 100% that animals are not food. So it's sort of like being a canabul a couple times a year.

I peasonally don't feel that way. If someone is eating vegetarian foods strictly for health reasons and not for moral conviction, they might get away with it in moderation. Remember however, that the body is accustomed to the digestion of one type of food and that a sudden change might cause problems.

I dont think most v&v hate flexitarians, its more like they feel like if you are going to go to the trouble of being almost vegetarian, that you should become a vegetarian. Others are word police about the word vegetarian and they feel that too many use it to describe themselves and misrepresent vegetarians in doing so. But hate is far too strong a word for certain. But anyway, things that bother me-
1- People who think we flexatarian questions shouldn't be on the v&v board. Like it or not, there is no reason to be overly specific on y!a. Flex questions have more to do with v&v than they do with general food.
2- People (including you) who like to use the word omnivore to describe anyone who is not vegetarian. We are all omnivores. And certainly vegs who consume dairy or eggs are acting like omnivores, but still somehow they like to tell flexatarians "you are just an omnivore," not a sentiment that is ever expressed to an ovo or lacto vegetarian. And the same ones are usually word police about the word vegetarian.

First, most veg*ns gave up animal products for ethical reasons. For many, it's a moral belief - akin almost to religious people abstaining from sexual relations. A religious person wouldn't say "It's okay to get laid three or four times a year if I abstain the rest of the time." That, in a way, is how many vegetarians view meat eating - as something morally repugnant. You attach yourself to vegetarianism with your 'flexetarian' label, but you don't actually espouse any beliefs of it. You just want to label yourself as something different, and are using their beliefs to do so.

Second, what is a flexitarian? It's a nothing. It's an omnivore that tries to eat healthily. What's the point in using a term like that? What exactly does it mean? What's the threshold between flexitarian/vegetarian/regular old omnivore? It's a silly and pointless distinction to make. At worst, it can confuse omnivores who aren't aware of vegetarianism.

Just to be clear, I'm not a vegetarian. I eat seafood. I never eat other meat products. There's a word for my kind - omnivore.

there is no longer something incorrect with being a Muslim. Islam is in all probability the main misunderstood faith, they call Muslims terrorist in the event that they are protecting their very own united states! The Iraqis are protecting themselves purely. And if Obama grew to become right into a Muslim, i do no longer think of that must be a huge deal simply by fact, i think of, he desires to take the people out of Iraq.

Veggies just don't like the fact that people feel they need to label themselves as something. A flexetarian is just a meat eater who doens't eat meat often. Thats it. Personally, I think names like pescatarian are equally as irritating. Fish is meat...you aren't any form of vegetarian if you eat fish.

If you want to only eat meat on special occasions, fine. Yes, you will be saving some animals...but you don't need to give yourself a special name.

You have the right to do what it is you wish with YOUR body.

It sounds like you're more concerned about fitting in with vegans than doing it for your own reasons.

It's none of anyone's business what you do with your body. It's your choice, and there's nothing wrong with eating meat PERIOD.

I do believe god designed the earth as a food chain. We're not the only animals that eat animals. I don't think it's a coendicence that we as well as other animals eat meat.

okay, im a vegetarian and i do not like "so-called flexitarians"
because they pretend to be vegetarians. In the third grade people would go around saying they were half-vegetarian but, the defintion of vegetarian is a person who doesnot eat meat. but if you eat meat than you are not a vegetarian AT ALL!
