I'm spending the day at my moms, she is cooking the turkey and I am making all the side dishes and dessert, my family are all ok with them being vegan (after much debate about marshmallows as the topping for sweet potatoes--my family was h*ll bent on them but we finally settled on finely ground pecans & walnuts). I am trying a tofurkey for the first time.
I am thankful for my youngest son being out of the Army after 3 years of service. He moved out of the apartment on base a month ago, but he is officially out of the Army as of Nov 23, 2007
For those of you in other countries, do you have a similar type holiday as Thanksgiving?

Thanks to all of you who are answering, I just love hearing about how others spend their holidays and I appreciate hearing from those of you from other countries as well.
scotland rocks- Thanksgiving started back in the 1600's with some Pilgrims who had a huge feast with some Indians, that is a very basic description. Through the years it evolved into what we know it as today. We gather with people we care about and have a big dinner and just enjoy the day. http://www.pilgrimhall.org/f_thanks.htm

veganomicon: I've never heard of adopting a turkey, could you supply info about how it's done? I think that's great idea!

Happy thanksgiving!
This year I am spending the holiday at my grandmothers house. I am bring a vegetarian main dish for me, that can also be a side for everyone else.
Right now I am thankful for my family, and the support that they give me. It is certainly easy to take that for granted, I'm glad sometimes I get reminded of just how great it is to have the love and support of family.

i'm thankful for my health, my family and friends, and my education.
we'll be spending today dealing with the torrent of activity in my kitchen. it's a pretty well-mixed meal. i'll be having Tofurky, and all of the sides are either vegan or a vegan alternative has been made. i'm pretty excited.
and it's my niece's first thanksgiving - she's 9-months-old today. my son is looking forward to sharing sweet potatoes with her.
i know that there really isn't a "Thanksgiving" holiday in the Netherlands. my dad is Dutch, and this marks his first thanksgiving as a resident of the US.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and to all as well. I am spending Thanksgiving with my family. We pretty much have the traditional fare. Then my mother and i have to go shopping the next day (ughhh, but she insists and we have been doing it for years). By late Friday afternoon I will be back on my own (as BF is still hunting with dad) and will probably head to local watering hole, after trekking all over creation in a sea of people, and give thanks for my pint and that this day only comes once a year. LOL!
Seriously, I am thankful for my family, friends and all of the blessings that has been bestowed upon me.
Have a happy and safe one out there!
LOL Me! I am not sure if there is anybody out there that I do not like that much. Can you imagine her at our local BW's? it would be a mess.

Good Day and a big Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours! :-D
After my morning yoga, I'm heading over to my mother's house to help her fix the meal. I'll probably arrive around 7:30/8:00 am for some coffee and a light breakfast. After that, we're going to have an early dinner.
I'm thankful for everything God has given me and my family: our health and strength, our lives, food to eat, shelter, etc. With all the hunger, foreclosures and diseases in the world, we are VERY blessed.

Happy Thanksgiving back!
I am thankful that I will be with the people I actually like this year and not the people you are supposed to like, just because they are family. I am thankful my gf is a great cook (since I am not). I am thankful that (thanks to a recent raise), I was able to "adopt" a turkey from Farm Sanctuary, rather than eating any of them.
This year, it will just be me, my gf, and her parents. Very low-key and enjoyable.

Happy Thanksgiving to you too and to everyone who celebrates the holiday.
I'm thankful for having a wonderful family and great friends. Also, the freedom to express myself in the manner I choose and the ability to do what I want, when I want, as long as I'm not harming anyone else.
K-I'm happy for you and your son :-)
