My boyfriend and I broke up a few weeks ago and throughout our relationship we had sex but I know he got tested for HIV and was HIV-free. After we broke up I made out with a few guys but that was as far as it went. I don't remember having any sores or tasting any blood. So a few weeks later I got tonsillitis but I think this is normal for me since I tend to get tonsillitis a lot.

Anyway, should I be worried at all about tonsillitis? Since it mimics the first signs of HIV, could I have in any way gotten HIV from kissing?

And P.S. I just got tested yesterday and am negative but figure that if it's from the kissing it wouldn't have shown up yet.

Please tell me I am going crazy, lol!

When I say I got tested I mean I got tested for HIV.

You might have just caught some kind of bacteria from one of the guys. Common colds, mono, strep throat, and other infections can all be spread by kissing. So, it could be a number of things, but I highly doubt it is HIV.

Open-mouth kissing is considered a very low-risk activity for the transmission of HIV. However, prolonged open-mouth kissing could damage the mouth or lips and allow HIV to pass from an infected person to a partner and then enter the body through cuts or sores in the mouth. Because of this possible risk, the CDC recommends against open-mouth kissing with an infected partner.

Take care!

Hey there! First of all, tonsillitis has nothing to do with the first signs of HIV. You should probably do a little research on HIV. Maybe reading an article on it in an encyclopedia would help.

Another thing you'll find is that it is possible, but difficult to contract HIV through kissing. HIV is a blood borne disease and is usually transfered when you have an open wound or mucous membrane that comes into direct contact with the blood of someone with HIV.

It sounds to me like you have absolutely nothing to worry about. You really can't walk around wondering if everybody has HIV and if you should kiss them or not.

It usually takes up to 6 months for HIV to show up. But no, I don't think you could get HIV from just kissing. Unless you both have like a fresh wound in the lip area.

Do you try to google hiv transmittion before? If yes, you will know you can not contracted hiv by simple kissing. I met some friends on http://herpesmates.com, most of them are livng with hiv, but I never heard kissing would give hiv to others, however, blood transmitted is possible.

One can't help you regarding the people you "made up" with (only kissing? Then, don't become paranoid regarding HIV, especially if you or your partner had no sores), however, if you have tonsillitis frequently you should have a tonsillectomy.

These thoughts are crazy. If you have a history of tonsillitis and now you have a sore throat, why would you think it was anything else?
