Sugar beet is a root vegetable with a juicy root . The juice can be processed to get sugar and the root can be eaten raw as a salad or cooked as a vegetable .

the main difference, besides how each is processed, is that sugar cane is a grass, just like other grains are. if you are allergic to wheat or any other grain, you may be allergic to cane sugar. buyer beware!
