She said that it could be from too much semen in your vagina. My and my fiance have sex at least every other day! So, i have to take this medicine for a couple weeks. Can we still have sex while im taking the meds? And also, how many times a week could i have sex to prevent getting BV again? Thanks!

BV is not directly caused by too much semen in the vagina, but it can be aggravated by semen in the vagina. The vagina is acidic, and this maintains a proper balance between natural bacteria and yeasts. But semen is alkaline, so it can throw off your pH balance, allowing bacteria to flourish and cause problems.

Can you have sex while on the meds? I'd really advise against it. For one thing, your pH issues are the problem. Secondly, you have a RAGING INFECTION in there. Think about that. Do you want to bring your partner into that? You really shouldn't. Let yourself HEAL first.

If you want to avoid BV in the future, use a CONDOM when having sex. The minor loss of sensation is a small sacrifice to ensure that you prevent future infections. After all, chronic BV problems can result in pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), which in turn can permamently make you infertile. Definitely do NOT use a vaginal douche. It will aggravate your BV and spread the infection upward, increasing the risk of PID.

Also, consider a probiotic supplement. You can buy Acidophilus supplements at your health food store. Take them, and it sohuld help you maintain good bacteria in your vagina so the BV bacteria (Gardnerella) don't take over.

If you are trying to conceive, then you'll need to plan carefully so that when you don't use condoms, you stand a better chance of conceiving (chart your fertility, et al).

The problem here seems to not be so much too much sex as a possible lack of hygeine. Semen does have proteins and carbohydrates in it and as such can be a great nutrient solution for bacteria. Add to this the warm and moist incubator that is your vagina, and you have a perfect breeding ground for bacteria. After this has cleared up, and you should probably refrain from sex for the duration of the antibiotics, you might want to consider cleaning yourself out after sex and frequent douching.

Douching is not really recommended anymore. But please do always visit the bathroom after sex, have a pee and a good wipe. You might also consider using a condom either every time you have sex or maybe alternate so you dont have a "build up" down there.

no you should not have sex until you finish your meds...just to be safe...you can have sex as much as you want.....just make sure you wash up right after you had sex with soap and water and make sure your towels are clean.....and also make sure your fiance goes and get a check up too....no excuses
