fish aren't vegetables?

You've gotten alot of bogus answers. Here is the REAL answer, based on the definition of "Vegetarian"
eggs, yes, Fish No

Fish is a dead animal. You are eating it's meat. This does not follow the definition of vegetarianism.

"Vegetarian" usually means "lacto-ovo vegetarian" which means someone who eats no meat but does eat eggs and milk.

People call themselves vegetarians and eat fish, but they are wrong and causing confusion. They just want to get on the vegetarian "bandwagon" because it's cool or something. They are pescetarians, which is a category of it's own. It is NOT a "type" or "subset" of vegetarian. It does not fall under the definiton of "vegetarian"

Eggs are not meat,
eggs are unfertilized, usually, so they are not a baby animal. once an unfertilized egg is laid, there is nothing that could have turned that egg into a baby chicken. This is why Vegetarians do not consider it a life, an anmal, or meat.

This information is the official stance of "vegetarians" (when someone says "vegetarian" they mean lacto-ovo vegetarian) Vegan is an even stricter diet which I won't go into right now accept to say no animal products in use. Milk, eggs, meat, leather, honey.. etc..

But this is the correct information and anyone who said differently is mininformed. Simply the truth. The definition of Vegetarian is simple and well-defined. Shouldn't be so complicated. It's the morons who go on eating fish and still call themselves vegetarians that have caused all the confusion.

Eggs are vegetarian, unless they're fertilized, in which case they wouldn't be good scrambled anyway.

Fish is not vegetarian. But if you're not eating all the other animals out there, you're still doing a pretty good job. The technical name for an almost-vegetarian who includes fish is a pescetarian.

Only you know what is okay for you to eat. Don't let anyone give you crap about semantics.

Sorry you cant eat any type of meat or meat products..The only thing I can suggest is to eat a human and save the animals. That way one day we will be able to marry our favorite animal and have animal kids..I think this is the best solution for the war in Iraq...If we do not do something about the over population of chickens, pigs, cows and other animals we will end up with more disease from there fecal matter and urine..I understand vegetarians and people that have allergies to certain kinds of meat, but vegans idk..You thoughts?

Yes it is okay for a vegetarian to eat eggs because eggs aren't meat. On the otherhand, vegans can't eat eggs or fish. Vegans don't believe in eating anything that comes from an animal. Some don't even use things that come from animals such as fur coats and snake purses. But yes, you can eat eggs to answer your question.

It depends on how strict you want to be. From what I heard fish isn't considered animals (which makes no sense to me), and eggs should be ok. It's all up to you. If I was a vegetarian myself, I wouldn't eat fish or eggs (except I'd use eggs in cooking). If you want to cook but don't want to use eggs, there is a lot of egg substitutes you can find in stores.

Fish is meat. If you were avoiding meat for ecological reasons, though, there might be an argument for eating sea fish as a way of bringing phosphate back to the land, as sewage permanently removes it to the sea, but that would have to be done in conjunction with using human waste for farming or something similar. Then again, you could achieve the same effect to a lesser degree by eating sea vegetables, which are extremely healthy and tasty.

No, you can not eat any type of meat, poultry or fish when you're a vegetarian. Stuff like dairy, honey and eggs are okay unless you want to be a vegan.
There's a type of vegetarian diet called macrobiotics.

Macrobiotics
A macrobiotic diet is mainly vegetarian, but macrobiotic diets often include seafood. In this diet all other meat products are excluded, as are eggs and dairy products. They also do not eat "nightshade vegetables" (potato, pepper and eggplant), refined sugar and tropical fruits. This diet contains many foods found in Asian countries such as miso soup, root vegetables (daikon and lotus) and sea vegetables (seaweed, kelp, arame).

But if you want to keep eating fish then do so (=

Technically no, vegetarians do not eat any animal based products. T.K (a few answers above me) gave really good definitions of the different types of vegie/ semi-veggie restricted diets. But, you should eat whatever you feel is morally correct. Don't just follow what some other extreme vegetarian tells you to do. You can, however, just say that your diet is MOSTLY vegetarian and you make exceptions for fish & eggs. Just be yourself.

It depends on you. If your like my mother, she doesn't eat meat, seafood, or eggs, but drinks milk. It may be difficult to not eat eggs and milk, but thats just my opinion. Some vegetarians eat seafood and eggs, and some don't. Whatever you choose will be right for you.

I think you're making a good choice of becoming a vegetarian, I was one for 3 years, its a good lifestyle. I followed it the same as my mother, except i ate eggs.

Whichever way you choose to do it will be right for you.

Good Luck. =)

if you want to be vegan no.........no animal, dairy, seafood or eggs..........the motto kind of being if it had a face don't eat it.

Now having said that.........I was a vegan for 9 years, I found however that I could not eat the quantity of food required in the diet to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
I now eat some fish and seafood, this has improved my health considerably.
Just my experience , simply do an internet search and read up on vegetarianism on the net.
