Anything between 4.4 and 6.1 is fine. Here are a couple of links that you might find helpful:

If you have a family history of diabetes, you might want to adopt a low fat, low (refined) carb diet and stay physically active as a preventive measure, but 4.8 would seem to indicate that all systems are working fine, for now.

I don't know how to translate that over but lay off all things white-flour, sugar, rice(white), potatoes (the worst, worse than a candy bar. Make your carbs green. Drink more water and never drink regular sodas. And don't drink too much diet stuff either. Maybe learn to drink tea without sugar and coffee w/o sugar but lots and lots of water. Whenever you have a sweet tooth, drink water first and it will help quelch the urge. Eat smaller portions and balanced meals. And then you need to exercise. All of this lowers blood sugar. Lots of luck.

I think 5 is about normal... though I could be completly off...lol.... if you are worried about fluctuating sugar levels I would look into possible suppliments... cinnsulin is a product to check out. Also Goji has the ability to level sugar levels. If you are truly concerned though I would definatly see your doctor.

For an adult male [ fasting ] levels between 3.5 and 6.0 are within 'normal' range. If by 'random' you mean non-fasting that's excellent either way it's o.k. but, it IS a good idea to limit sugar intake anyway, for general health reasons.
