I am 20 yrs old and in college. I am 5'6" and weigh just under 150 lbs. I was an athlete all through high school and still have the same build i had in high school. to my knowledge i have no family history of heart disease. my diet isn't perfect but not terrible either. i frequently have chest pains both in the middle and left side of my chest. they come and go quickly and are very sharp. they dont usually occur after meals so i think that rules out acid reflux and heart burn, but im not a Dr. so im not %100. I just recently ended a long term relationship and think maybe its stress related altho it has been occuring even b4 that. Also, incase i didnt mention, i am a white male. What could this pain be?

To find out whats happening, a detailed question should be asked to you (so i suggest you to see your physician)

Did the pain related to physical activities, for example, it happens when you are running, or working and disappear when you rest. Did the pain radiating to elsewhere, for example to the back or to your shoulder. Did the pain moving randomly in your chest (it didnt have an anchor), did the pain start to happen when your relation with your girlfriend broke?

There is two possible explanation to this symptom, either it is an organic or non organic. Organic mean there is disturbances in your body that can bee seen (eg heart, brain, blood), in this case the likely involved organs is heart due to the location of pain. It is called angina pectoris, it happens beacuse there is temporary narrowing in your coronary vessel diameter, as a result the oxygen delivery to your heart muscle is disrupted temporary. The oxygen hungry muscle cell then release inflammatory mediator that cause pain.
It is not a life threatening disease, so you dont have to worry. Beside that there is several facts that benefit you ( young, athlete, no family history, not smoking, no diabetes mellitus).

The other possibilities was non organic cause, you may have depression or anxiety. It is common for these patient to experience episode of chest pain. The depression or anxiety could come from your relationship problem, your study or any other source.

If this thing bother you or it makes you worried so much, i suggest you visit your physician.

Wow. It seems like your describing something similar to what I experienced as a kid and occasionally as an adult. I get those achy, sharp pain in my chest / rib area. Often the pain is mild but sometimes it's so bad I can barley take a breath. It also feels like it starts at the bottom of my rib cage and then travels up my side as it slowly goes away. I was told by my doctor it was "growing" pains. Then when I was older, I brought it up again and he said it could be a muscle spam. It's been months since I've had one. With me, the pain only last a few seconds and at the most a minute or two. They also only seem to happen once or twice in a day when i do have them. I would suggest that if they occur more frequently, multiple times in a day I'd see someone about it. It could be nothing or it could be something (kind of obvious answer).

At your age it's rare to have a hidden heart problem but possible. It's a good possibilitiy that your symptoms are caused by (anxiety, panic attacks, depression) and the symptoms feel very real. After a few trips to the emergency room they'll have you list as a nut job and tell you to see a shrink.
Just telling u the way it is without the sluff.

The best thing to do is ask your doctor. I've had sharp and sudden pains in my chest a few times in my life and I was emotionally stressed during those times. I honestly don't know what it is but I doubt it's anything serious. Try not to worry too much, just talk to a doc about your concerns.

The cause is simple you are grossly overweight for your age, as I can see you were athlete and a good one too, so go back to tracks.
Next is that no matter what happens eat on fixed time, and Yogurt without cream.
All your problems will be over.
Sorry for straight forward answer, because I am splinter too, and once you leave the track you get these problems.
As far relationship is concerned if your healthy you can patch up the matter later on, OK, health top priority.

Saturated fat is the main dietary cause of high blood cholesterol. Saturated fat is found mostly in foods from animals such as beef, beef fat, veal, lamb, pork, lard, poultry fat, butter, cream, milk, cheeses and other dairy products. Foods from plants that contain saturated fat include coconut, coconut oil, palm oil and palm kernel oil (often called tropical oils), and cocoa butter.
High cholesterol causes high blood pressure. The best thing for high cholesterol is Losing weight. A plant-based diet in conjunction with a properly conducted fast most often leads to a total recovery or a vast improvement in hypertension and angina.
