Better buy one, and follow the instructions given in the brochure. BUT it's better if your doctor or paramedic checks your BP.

Hello! There are different sphygnomanometers but unfortunately, the digital ones for the home is not that accurate. But anyway, if you do buy, try Omron. You have to be sitting down. If you use the wrist type, place it on your left hand, clench it and your clenched hand should be on your chest. If you use the arm band, it should be like in the MDs clinic. If you buy the gadget, there usually is a direction & pictures to follow. Remember, the best way is still to have it checked in the clinic or RHU near you.

You can take it sitting on the couch, just don't talk or move while it is deflating. Keep your arm as still and relaxed as possible. If you are feeling light headed or feeling other symptoms take it standing afterwards. If higher just from standing is a good sign you are dehydrated.

I don't think wrist ones are as dependable as the arm ones and it's good to compare at a doctor's office once in a while.

Your arm should be straight or close to it, with your upper arm at the level of your heart.

You should also have your feet flat. Don't sit on or cross your legs.

If you can rest your arm on the armrest of the couch, at the proper height, then that's fine.
