Carbon (dioxide) is released into the air when (electrical) energy is made by burning coal. Also when natural gas is used for heating or gas is burned in cars. This makes a large carbon "footprint". The carbon dioxide (and other greenhouse gases) changes the way the planet radiates energy. It gets warmer. The greatest warming happens at the poles. Those of us toward the equator are more likely to see changes in rainfall amounts or patterns, or hurricanes.
