What causes type 1 diabetes?
The appearance of type 1 diabetes is suspected to follow exposure to an "environmental trigger," such as an unidentified virus, stimulating an immune attack against the beta cells of the pancreas (that produce insulin) in some genetically predisposed people.
Type 1 diabetes is usually diagnosed in children and young adults and is commonly known at juvenile diabetes. In this type of diabetes which is considered chronic (lifelong) disease, the body does not produce insulin which is needed to convert glucose, starches and other food into energy that we need.
Type 2 diabetes is sometimes referred to as mature onset diabetes, the pancreas either does not produce adequate levels of insulin or the body becomes resistant to its own insulin. This is usually diagnosed in older adults, however, it is becoming substantially more prevalent in the younger population. An individual is likely developing the type 2 diabetes when a person is overweight or obese.

Type I or juvenile diabetes is an autoimmune response, the body attacks the cells in the pancreas and the body no long produces insulin, just something that unfortunately happens. These diabetics are always insulin dependent and this can occur even shortly after birth. Type II diabetes or adult onset is influenced by genetics (family) diet, obesity, lack of exercise etc. In this type the body kind of wears down and insulin production diminishes. They can take pills to help jump start insulin production or can become insulin dependent. Some adults with Type II can reverse there diabetes with weight loss, diet control and exercise.

Some people are born with it. That's what they call Type I Diabetes.
Others contract it later in life, and this is what is referred to as Type II Diabetes. Most often, it is related to being overweight, but essentially what happens is that your pancreas doesn't produce the right amount of insulin to appropriately control your blood sugar levels.
Most of the time, diabetes is controllable with medication. Some diabetics can take theirs orally, but often, a regular injection of insulin is required in order to keep blood sugar levels stable.

There is no exact one cause for a person with diabetes.
For Type 1, it is said to be inherited from genes. Hence if your parents or you have family members who are diabetics, your risk increases.
For Type 2, you develop diabetes later in life. Obesity increases your risk to developing diabetes. It is also said that unhealthy lifestyle and eating habits are also be blamed.

by too much sugar. basically, it's just when your pancreas(an organ) stops making insulin because of some reason. you need insulin to live. btw it's not spreadable! i just hate it when people say or think it does.
